A spectroscopic study of a cyclodextrin-based polymer and the “molecular accordion” effect [PDF]
The formation of host–guest complexes was studied for two hosts: β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and a cross-linked polymer containing an equimolar ratio of β-CD and hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI), denoted as HDI-1. The thermodynamics of host–guest binding were studied with 1-anilinonaphthalene-8-sulfonic acid (1,8-ANS) using steady-state fluorescence ...

Novel strategy for low-temperature vacuum preparation of high-quality graphene
Previously, the preparation of graphene often required one or more of strong acid oxidants, reduction temperatures above 1000 ℃,expensive metal catalysts, and accompanied by the problems of low efficiency, high and heavy pollution.

The Accordion Effect: Is Quality in Afterschool Getting the Squeeze?
Community-based afterschool programs remain places that support youth development. However, in most places quality is getting the squeeze, making it more difficult to meet the growing needs of youth and parents. This article describes the impact of increased external and regulatory pressures that have taken hold at a time of reduced financial and ...

A Geometrically Transient Platform for Bioelectronic Implants
Minimally invasive bioelectronic implants often compromise performance for smaller sizes. To resolve this optimization dilemma, a wireless bioelectronic implant with a transient geometry is introduced (MiFi). The origami‐inspired device miniaturizes up to sixfold for syringe insertion and autonomously unfolds post‐implantation.
