Marriage has long been a legacy of overseas deployment for Australian servicemen. In the case of the war in Vietnam, Australian men often interacted with local women on base, in civilian spaces, or in passing. Occasionally, couples would form private relationships and, in some cases, marry and return to Australia at the end of deployment.

Who wins when? Election timing and descriptive representation
Abstract We examine how the timing of local elections affects the success of minority candidates, who remain woefully underrepresented in public office. We build on research showing that concurrent elections narrow racial gaps in voter turnout and leverage changes in the timing of local elections in California.
