Luminous Hot Accretion Disks [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2001
We find a new two-temperature hot branch of equilibrium solutions for stationary accretion disks around black holes. In units of Eddington accretion rate defined as $10L_{\rm Edd}/c^2$, the accretion rates to which these solutions correspond are within the range $\dot{m}_1 \la \dot{m} \la 1$, here $\dot{m}_1$ is the critical rate of advecti$.

Functionalizing Micro‐to‐Mesoscopic Electrode Architectures for Regulating Electron Transfer Behaviors in Electrocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A systematic review is conducted to assess the influence of electrode architecture across micro‐ to mesoscopic length scales on electron‐transfer pathways in electrocatalysis. We discuss the structure‐activity relationships in electrocatalytic applications, including resource recovery and environmental remediation, and provide cost‐effective, efficient

The Distinctive Evolution and Spectral Energy Distribution of Binary Massive Black Hole Accretion

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Binary (super-)massive black holes (BHs) are expected to reside in the center of some galaxies. In this work, we revisit accretion onto binary massive BHs, incorporating recent advances in both accretion theory and the mass transfer rate between the two ...

Dynamically Actuated Reconfigurable Topographical Surface Enables Active Control of Implant‐Associated Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A dynamically actuated reconfigurable topographical surface (DARTS) integrates contact‐mediated bactericidal nanotopography with programmable mechanical actuation to actively disrupt bacterial biofilms. Dynamic surface reconfiguration enhances bacterial killing and suppresses implant‐associated infections in vivo, providing a new strategy for active ...

Super-Eddington Magnetized Neutron Star Accretion Flows: A Self-similar Analysis

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The properties of super-Eddington accretion disks exhibit substantial distinctions from the sub-Eddington ones. In this paper, we investigate the accretion process of a magnetized neutron star (NS) surrounded by a super-Eddington disk.

Freeze‐Thaw Engineered Dual Conductivity Polymeric Binder Stabilizes Large‐Volume‐Change Lithium–Ion Battery Anodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work developed an all‐aqueous freeze‐thaw strategy to create a dual‐conductive PVA/P3KBT binder for high volume‐change lithium–ion battery anodes. The resulting binder system strengthens the electrode structure, supports ion and electron transport, and accommodates repeated volume changes, reducing cracking and improving long‐term cycling ...

Accretion disks around black holes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
The physics of accretion flow very close to a black hole is dominated by several general relativistic effects. It cannot be described by the standard Shakura Sunyaev model or by its relativistic version developed by Novikov and Thome.

Secret of Longevity: Protoplanetary Disks as a Source of Gas in Debris Disks

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
While protoplanetary disks (PPDs) are generally thought to disperse within several million years, recent observations have revealed gas in their older counterparts, debris disks.

Accretion into Black Hole, and Formation of Magnetically Arrested Accretion Disks [PDF]

open access: yesUniverse, 2019
The exact time-dependent solution is obtained for a magnetic field growth during a spherically symmetric accretion into a black hole (BH) with a Schwarzschild metric. Magnetic field is increasing with time, changing from the initially uniform into a quasi-radial field.

Bio‐Inspired Artificial Ionic Mechanoreceptor

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A skin‐inspired artificial mechanoreceptor based on ionic interactions is presented for biomimetic tactile sensing. Pressure‐driven ionic redistribution within microfluidic channels generates a self‐powered electrical signal without external bias. The generated waveform exhibits mechanoreceptor‐like temporal features, including overshoot and undershoot,
