Radiative properties and QPOs around charged black hole in Kalb–Ramond gravity

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields
Studies of accretion disc luminosities and quasiperiodic oscillations around black holes may help us understand the gravitational properties of black hole spacetime.

XMM-Newton observations of OY Car III: OM light curve modelling, X-ray timing and spectral studies

open access: yes, 2003
We revisit the XMM-Newton observations of the dwarf nova OY Car taken in July 2000 which occured shortly after an outburst. Ramsay et al (2001a) found a prominent energy dependent modulation at a period of 2240 sec: this modulation was only seen for app.

Distinguishing black holes from naked singularities through their accretion disc properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We show that, in principle, a slowly evolving gravitationally collapsing perfect fluid cloud can asymptotically settle to a static spherically symmetric equilibrium configuration with a naked singularity at the center.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Bayesian fitting of Taurus brown dwarf spectral energy distributions

open access: yes, 2012
We present derived stellar and disc parameters for a sample of Taurus brown dwarfs both with and without evidence of an associated disc. These parameters have been derived using an online fitting tool (http://bd-server.astro.ex.ac.uk/), which includes a ...

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

Coronae Above Accretion Discs [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1976
A turbulent accretion disc generates acoustic noise which, on propagation upward into the tenuous upper layers, forms shock waves. These give rise to a corona above the disc, thereby providing the possibility to determine observationally the existence (or otherwise) of turbulence in the disc. Models for stationary coronae of this type are calculated on

Dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) regulates trophoblast syncytialization through organelle stress–induced cellular senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The inhibition of mitochondrial dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) impairs syncytialization and induces cellular senescence via mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticulum stress in human trophoblast stem cells, elevating sFlt1/PlGF levels, a hallmark of placental dysfunction in hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.

NR4A1 Exerts Pro‐Tumor Role in Glioblastoma via Inducing xCT/GPX4‐Regulated Ferroptosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose This study investigates NR4A1's paradoxical roles in glioblastoma (GBM) progression, focusing on its mechanistic link to ferroptosis regulation. We aimed to resolve conflicting reports of NR4A1 as both an oncogene and a tumor suppressor by defining its transcriptional control over xCT/GPX4‐mediated iron homeostasis and its clinical ...
