3C 120 Disk/Corona vs. Jet Variability in X-rays

open access: yesUniverse, 2023
The 3C120 (Mrk 1506, UGC 03087, Mrk 9014) is a type 1 Seyfert (Sy1)/broad-line radio galaxy (BLRG) with intriguing variable jet activity featuring “dip” and “outburst” phases.

Fate of an accretion disc around a black hole when both the viscosity and dark energy is in effect

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields, 2017
This paper deals with the viscous accretion flow of a modified Chaplygin gas towards a black hole as the central gravitating object. A modified Chaplygin gas is a particular type of dark energy model which mimics of radiation era to phantom era depending

The truncated and evolving inner accretion disc of the black hole GX 339-4 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The nature of accretion onto stellar mass black holes in the low/hard state remains unresolved, with some evidence suggesting that the inner accretion disc is truncated and replaced by a hot flow.

Supersoft X-Ray Source CAL 83: A Possible AE Aqr-like System

open access: yesActa Polytechnica CTU Proceedings, 2015
CAL83 is a close binary supersoft X-ray source in the Large Magellanic Cloud. A ~67 s periodicity detected in supersoft X-rays is most probably associated with the spin period of a highly spun-up white dwarf (WD).

Black Hole Accretion Discs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This is an introduction to models of accretion discs around black holes. After a presentation of the non-relativistic equations describing the structure and evolution of geometrically thin accretion discs we discuss their steady-state solutions and compare them to observation.

The Radiative Transfer in Accretion Discs with Linear Plank Function: Role of Scattering Effect [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Astronomy and Astrophysics, 2020
Radiative transfer in a geometrically thin accretion disc with fnite optical depth is considered under the plane-parallel approximation. The Eddington factor that is defned as the ratio of the mean intensity to radiation stress tensor, is assumed be ...

The Accretion Disc Particle Method for Simulations of Black Hole Feeding and Feedback

open access: yes, 2010
Black holes grow by accreting matter from their surroundings. However, angular momentum provides an efficient natural barrier to accretion and so only the lowest angular momentum material will be available to feed the black holes.

The central parsecs of M87: jet emission and an elusive accretion disc [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We present the first simultaneous spectral energy distribution (SED) of M87 core at a scale of 0.4 arcsec ( ∼ 32 pc) across the electromagnetic spectrum.

AGN Accretion Discs

open access: yes, 2023
I present the elements of accretion-disc physics applied to active galactic nuclei. The accretion driving mechanisms are discussed, then models of geometrically-thin discs, both stationary and time-dependent, are addressed. Disc's self-gravitation in the AGN context is presented.

Accretion Disc Instabilities [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1992
I give a brief discussion of accretion disc instabilities, concentrating mainly on tidal instabilities caused by the presence of a binary companion. The superhumps observed in superoutbursts of SU UMa dwarf novae probably result from the excitation of a resonance in the accretion disc near the 3:1 commensurability with the binary orbit.
