Accurate characterization of complex Bloch modes in optical chain waveguides using real-valued computations

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
This research presents a highly accurate and easy-to-implement method to characterize the complex Bloch modes propagating along optical chain waveguides with three-dimensional (3D) layered geometries and dispersive negative-epsilon material compositions.

Evaluation of mean velocity and mean speed for test ventilated room from RANS and LES CFD modeling [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2019
The paper presents and discusses data for the ventilation airflow in an isothermal room corresponding to the Nielsen et al. (1978) test computed with Large Eddy Simulation (LES) and Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) approaches.

Salient Object Detection: An Accurate and Efficient Method for Complex Shape Objects

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
Deep learning-based salient object detection (SOD) methods have made great progress in recent years. However, most deep learning-based methods suffer from coarse object boundaries and expensive computations, especially in detecting objects with complex ...

Context-specific and context-invariant computations of interval timing

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2023
IntroductionAn accurate sense of time is crucial in flexible sensorimotor control and other cognitive functions. However, it remains unknown how multiple timing computations in different contexts interact to shape our behavior.MethodsWe asked 41 healthy ...

Accurate acoustic computations using a meshless method

open access: yesComputer Assisted Methods in Engineering and Science, 2023
It is well known today that the standard finite element method (FEM) is unreliable to compute approximate solutions of the Helmholtz equation for high wavenumbers due to the pollution effect, consisting mainly of the dispersion, i.e.

Accurately computing the electronic properties of a quantum ring [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 2021
A promising approach to study condensed-matter systems is to simulate them on an engineered quantum platform. However, achieving the accuracy needed to outperform classical methods has been an outstanding challenge. Here, using eighteen superconducting qubits, we provide an experimental blueprint for an accurate condensed-matter simulator and ...

Accurate moment computation using the GPU [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 14th ACM Symposium on Solid and Physical Modeling, 2010
We present algorithms for computing accurate moments of solid models that are represented using multiple trimmed NURBS surfaces. Our algorithms make use of programmable Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) to accelerate the computations. We evaluate the surface coordinates and normals accurately, with theoretical bounds, using our GPU NURBS evaluator.

Accurate gradient computations at interfaces using finite element methods

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, 2017
New finite element methods are proposed for elliptic interface problems in one and two dimensions. The main motivation is to get not only an accurate solution, but also an accurate first order derivative at the interface (from each side).
