Development of an Artificial Liquid Diet for Allelochemical Delivery in Lycorma delicatula

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Spotted lanternfly, Lycorma delicatula White (Hemiptera: Fulgoridae), is an invasive phloem‐feeding planthopper native to Asia, which poses a growing threat to US agriculture due to its broad host range and rapid spread since its 2014 detection. To better understand how L.

Type of Stress Induces Differential Responses in Acer rubrum (Red Maple), but Induced Responses Have No Effect on Herbivorous Pests

open access: yesInternational Journal of Plant Biology, 2022
Plants thrive in dynamic environments requiring adaptive strategies in response to environmental stressors. Furthermore, insect herbivores may be attracted or deterred by the expression of these traits.

miR172‐AP2 Controls Age‐Dependent Regeneration Competence in Populus

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Plants maintain remarkable regenerative potential, yet this capacity declines with developmental age, limiting clonal propagation and biotechnological applications. Here, we show that the miR172‐AP2 module serves as a central determinant of regeneration competence in Populus.

A nuclear ribosomal DNA phylogeny of Acer inferred with maximum likelihood, splits graphs, and motif analysis of 606 sequences [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The multi-copy internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of nuclear ribosomal DNA is widely used to infer phylogenetic relationships among closely related taxa.

The Effects of Electron Beam Irradiation Dose on the Mechanical Performance of Red Maple (Acer rubrum)

open access: yesBioResources, 2014
To understand how electron beam irradiation affects wood physically and chemically, irradiated maple beams (Acer rubrum) and veneers were examined using three-point bend tests, dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), and NIR- and FTIR- spectroscopy.

Confronting the Issue of Invasive Native Tree Species Due to Land Use Change in the Eastern United States

open access: yesLand, 2022
The increased abundance of historically rare native tree species is symptomatic of land-use change, which causes ecosystem regime shifts. I tested for an association between mean agricultural area, a proxy for land-use change, and native tree species.

Changes in deer hunter satisfaction under special antlerless harvest regulations in Pennsylvania, USA

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, Volume 90, Issue 8, November 2026.
Deer Management Assistance Program hunter satisfaction in Pennsylvania increased over time and was associated with antlerless deer harvest success, repeated permit purchases, and seeing an antlerless deer. Understanding these relationships can help wildlife agencies support both deer management objectives and long‐term hunter engagement.

Litter Flammability of 50 Southeastern North American Tree Species: Evidence for Mesophication Gradients Across Multiple Ecosystems

open access: yesFrontiers in Forests and Global Change, 2021
Widespread fire exclusion and land-use activities across many southeastern United States forested ecosystems have resulted in altered species composition and structure.

Recovery of great blue herons (Ardea herodias) within the Chesapeake Bay

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, Volume 90, Issue 8, November 2026.
We surveyed great blue herons throughout the tidal reach of the Chesapeake Bay in 2013 and mapped 423 colonies supporting 15,094 pairs. The population has increased more than four‐fold since the mid‐1970s. Colony size has declined. Invasion of colonies by bald eagles may be driving a change in spatial structure.
