Because of their morphological diversities and physiological complexities, only a few Acer species have received attention from researchers in diverse fields; yet they hold onto their mysteries for scientists to unravel.

Ozone effects on soluble protein content of Acer negundo, Quercus robur and Platanus spp. pollen
In this study, the effect of three different ozone (O3) levels on soluble protein content of Acer negundo, Quercus robur and Platanus spp. pollen was investigated. Pollen was directly collected from each plant and exposed to O3 values below, equal and four times the limit for human health protection in an environmental chamber system. With this chamber,

Diseases of sycamore and maple (Acer spp.)
1982The only species of Acer native in Britain is the field maple, A. campestre, a small tree of woodland edges, hedgerows and boundaries. The sycamore, A. pseudoplatanus, introduced to Britain four or five hundred years ago, and now naturalised, is the only Acer species grown there as a forest tree, as well as for shelter and amenity planting.

TEM/FE-SEM studies on tension wood fibres of Acer spp., Fagus sylvatica L. and Quercus robur L.
Wood Science and Technology, 2009Tension wood (TW) fibres from maple, beech and oak were analysed with special emphasis on the cell wall fine structure and deposition of aromatic compounds within the gelatinous layer (GL). For this purpose, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was applied after section staining with potassium permanganate.
