Amino acids occurring in proteins are, with rare exceptions, exclusively of the L-configuration. Among the many scenarios put forward to explain the origin of this chiral homogeneity (i.e., homochirality), one involves the asymmetric photolysis of amino acids present in space, triggered by circularly polarized UV radiation.

The Factors of the Classification of Protein Amino Acids [PDF]

This paper is published in GLASNIK of Montenegrin Academy of Science and arts, 2000, 13, pp. 173-194, 2006
In this work it is shown that three pairs of the factors appear to be the key, i.e. main factors of a natural classification of protein (canonical) amino acids within the amino acid (genetic) code. First pair: the factors of the habit of an amino acid molecule (size and polarity).

What's New? Current treatment goals for polycythemia vera, a myeloproliferative neoplasm characterized by JAK2 mutations, are mainly to prevent thrombosis. While ropeginterferon alfa‐2b treatment also reduces JAK2 mutation burden, the correlation between the hematologic and molecular responses remains to be clarified.
