Biomechanical Comparison of Achilles Tenotomy and Achilloplasty Techniques in Young Rats

open access: yesJournal of the American Podiatric Medical Association, 2009
Background: Tendo Achillis lengthening is performed by means of Z-plasty in the classic treatment of clubfoot. In the Ponseti method for treating clubfoot, Achilles tenotomy is performed percutaneously for residual equine deformity. A randomized study was designed to compare tendon healing after tenotomy versus Z-plasty.

Mini-Open Technique for the Achilles Tenotomy in Correction of Idiopathic Clubfoot

open access: yesJournal of the American Podiatric Medical Association, 2008
Achilles tenotomy is performed for the residual equinus deformity in the Ponseti method of clubfoot treatment. In the present article, we describe a mini-open Achilles tenotomy technique to prevent complications that could occur during tenotomy. This technique was performed on 15 patients (25 feet) during a 3-year period in our clinic on patients whose

International Orthopaedics, 2015
The purpose of this study is to compare the efficacy of percutaneous Achilles tenotomy (AT) to combined open Achilles tenotomy and posterior capsulotomy (PC+AT) in the correction of residual equinus deformity in congenital talipes equinovarus after Ponseti serial casting in both idiopathic and non-idiopathic clubfeet. The authors retrospectively ...

Celecoxib inhibits the heterotopic ossification in the rat model with Achilles tenotomy

European Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology, 2012
Celecoxib, a selective cox-2 inhibitor, has been shown to prevent the heterotopic ossification following total hip arthroplasty. However, the effects of celecoxib on heterotopic ossification at other locations remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effect of celecoxib on heterotopic ossification in the rat model with Achilles tenotomy ...

Percutaneous Ultrasonic Tenotomy for Achilles Tendinopathy Is a Surgical Procedure With Similar Complications

Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery, 2017
Percutaneous ultrasonic tenotomy is a relatively new treatment option for multiple types of tendinopathy. However, a paucity of high-level data is available on its use for chronic Achilles tendinosis. The present case series details the complications associated with the use of this technique.

Early Radiographic Changes in the Lateral Talocalcaneal Angle Following Achilles Tenotomy in Children With Idiopathic Clubfoot

open access: yesFoot and Ankle International, 2020
Background: Percutaneous Achilles tenotomy (PAT) is an important component of the Ponseti method and is performed in 85% to 90% of patients. However, there is a lack of objective data assessing early radiographic changes in children undergoing PAT ...

Foot abduction increases after achilles tenotomy in clubfoot patients

Journal of Orthopaedic Science, 2021
Although Achilles tenotomy is performed to increase the ankle dorsiflexion in clubfoot patients, it may also increase the amount of the foot abduction due to the unique oval field of motion property of the ankle and subtalar joint complex. This study investigated the effect of Achilles tenotomy on foot abduction in patients with clubfoot.Equinus ...
