Acid–base Equilibrium

2021
This chapter explains the acid-base equilibrium. This involves the transfer of protons in line with the Brønsted–Lowry theory. A strong acid or strong base is fully ionized in an aqueous solution, while weak acids or bases are only partially ionized in an aqueous solution.

Clinical Disorders of Acid-Base Equilibrium

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1968
Most of the clinical abnormalities of acid-base balance are self-limited. They relate either to an increase in the number of hydrogen ions entering the extracellular fluid (ECF) or to an extracorporeal loss of base. Sustained abnormalities most often result from disease of one of the two major organs concerned with acid-base regulation, the lung or the

Acid-base equilibrium in Menière's disease

The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1976
57 patients suffering from Meiere's disease have been examined: metabolic alkalosis has been found in 39 and metabolic acidosis in 4. Electrolytes (Na, K and Cl) were normal. Among the 31 subjects in the control series a slight metabolic alkalosis qas detected only twice. Follow-up of several patients, from one to three years, resulted in a realization
