Surface etching and subsurface demineralization of dental enamel induced by a strong acid

European Journal of Oral Sciences, 1977
abstract – Intact enamel surfaces were exposed to 20 ml of 0.1% HCl for various periods. When the acid was unsaturated with respect to both hydroxyapatite and fluorapatite the surface enamel was etched away. With time the liquid close to the enamel became supersaturated with respect to fluorapatite but remained unsaturated with respect to ...

Obtaining scratch‐free specimens of dental enamel prepared by sectioning, grinding, polishing, and acid etching for scanning electron microscopy

Microscopy research and technique (Print), 2018
The aim of the present study was to identify the stage during acid etching of dental enamel where scratches introduced by sectioning and grinding procedures were eliminated. Nitric acid was used as etchant. Four hundred 2–3 mm‐thick longitudinal sections

Comparative Study of Acid Etching and SLA Surface Modification for Titanium Implants

Materials
The dust generated during the sandblasting process of the sandblasted and acid-etched (SLA) method, commonly used to treat the surface of Ti dental implants, poses significant challenges in maintaining a clean manufacturing environment and ensuring safe ...

Preferential removal of organic material from acid-etched human dental enamel by an ion-etching method

Archives of Oral Biology, 1978
Abstract Acid-etching of hypocalcified portions of the human enamel produced debris consisting of acid-insoluble organic material on the etched surface. Ion-etching treatment completely removed this debris with minimal change in the mineral components.

Sandblasted and acid-etched dental implants: a histologic study in rats.

The International journal of oral & maxillofacial implants, 2003
Current literature has revealed that surface etching of endosseous implants can improve bone-implant contact. The aim of this study was to evaluate the differences in bone-implant contact (BIC) between sandblasted/acid-etched and machined-surface implants.Thirty-two Sprague-Dawley rats were used in this study. Two implant surfaces, Ecotek (sandblasted/

Coating of Sandblasted and Acid-Etched Dental Implants With Tantalum Using Vacuum Plasma Spraying

Implant Dentistry, 2018
The objective was to prepare tantalum (Ta)-coated sandblasted and acid-etched (SLA) dental implants using vacuum plasma spraying (VPS) and to analyze their morphologies.Twelve SLA implants were coated with Ta using VPS. The topographies of the coatings and Ta/SLA surface interfaces were examined using scanning electron microscopy.

Preliminary investigation of a novel retentive system for hydrofluoric acid etch-resistant dental ceramics

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1997
A potential limitation to clinical use of In-Ceram and In-Ceram Spinell dental ceramics has been the inability to etch fit surfaces. This study investigated a novel retentive system for In-Ceram and In-Ceram Spinell ceramics. The system, Bateman etch retention system, relies on incorporation of plastic chips on the surface of a specimen.
