Four Different Methods Comparison for Extraction of Astaxanthin from Green Alga Haematococcus pluvialis

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2014
Haematococcus pluvialis is one of the potent organisms for production of astaxanthin. Up to now, no efficient method has been achieved due to its thick cell wall hindering solvent extraction of astaxanthin.

Extraction of cordycepic acid from the fruiting body of Cordyceps militaris (L.)

open access: yesBioTechnologia, 2019
Cordycepic acid from the fruiting body of Cordyceps militaris (L.) Link has various beneficial biological properties. However, the extraction of cordycepic acid from the fruiting body of C. militaris is difficult with minimal output.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Comparative Studies of Combined Influence of Variables on the Esterification Degree of Pectin Extracted by Sulfuric Acid and Citric Acid

open access: yesAdvances in Polymer Technology, 2019
The influence of extraction variables on degree of esterification (DE) of pectin was studied due to the significant effects of DE on the properties of the pectin-based functional biomaterials.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Ultrasound Co-Extraction Strategies to Obtain Carbohydrates and Protein from Macroalgae Gracilaria birdiae

open access: yesCompounds
The growing demand for sustainable, functional food ingredients has increased interest in algae, particularly for their bioactive compounds. Gracilaria birdiae is mainly used for agar production, but its protein potential is underexplored.

Liquid-Liquid Microextraction Method Coupled with GC-FID Analysis to Evaluate the Possible Adulteration of Corn Oil with Different Vegetable Oils [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering
Corn oil, a widely used and affordable food ingredient, undergoes fatty acid analysis primarily through Gas Chromatography (GC) equipped with a Flame Ionization Detector (FID) after the liquid-liquid microextraction method.

(Selective) Isolation of acetic acid and lactic acid from heterogeneous fermentation of xylose and glucose

open access: yesChemical Engineering Journal Advances, 2023
The present study focuses on the isolation of acetic and lactic acid from a fermentation broth produced by heterofermentative microorganisms using glucose and xylose as substrate. Especially xylose fermentation to lactic acid leads to unwanted by-product

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
