Modeling of uranium bioleaching by Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans

Annals of Nuclear Energy, 2012
Abstract In this paper, a mathematical model for the mesophilic bioleaching of uraninite is developed. The case of constant temperature, pH, and initial ore concentration is considered. The model is validated by comparing the calculated and measured values of uranium extraction, ferric and ferrous iron in solution, and cell concentration.

Catalytic effect of silver on copper release from chalcopyrite mediated by Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans.

Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2020
Although silver ion in the solution is an important factor affecting the biodissolution of chalcopyrite, the effect of silver ion on the release of copper ion from chalcopyrite to the environment has not been explored until now.

Experimental Investigation on Triclosan to Acidithiobacillus Ferrooxidans

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
Microbial activities intensified the oxidation of sulfide and acidification of coal mine waste. We had an investigation on bactericidal effect of triclosan in this experiment, taking the pH, Eh, Fe2+oxidation rate, Fe2+concentration and oxidation inhibition rate as the indexes. The lab experiment shows that this bactericide is effective. When they were

Adhesion of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans to mineral surfaces

International Journal of Mineral Processing, 2010
Abstract Direct contact mechanism in bioleaching implies prior mineral adhesion of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans and subsequent enzymatic attack. Prior bacterial adaptation to sulfide mineral substrates influences bacterial ferrous ion oxidation rates.

Biometallurgical recovery of metals from waste printed circuit boards using pure and mixed strains of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans and Acidiphilium acidophilum

, 2020
Bioleaching ability of two acidophiles, viz. Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans, a gammaproteobacteria, and Acidiphilium acidophilum, an alphaproteobacteria in pure and mixed strains was comparatively evaluated for the recovery of metals from waste printed ...

A novel approach for treating acid mine drainage through forming schwertmannite driven by a mixed culture of Acidiphilium multivorum and Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans prior to lime neutralization.

Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2020
As the predominant treatment approach of acid mine drainage (AMD), lime neutralization often exhibits inefficiencies since the abundance of iron and sulfate in AMD usually form iron hydroxide and gypsum precipitate coatings on the surface of lime.

Kinetics of sphalerite bioleaching by Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans

Hydrometallurgy, 2009
Abstract In the present study, the effect of some important parameters including particle size, pulp density and temperature on the rate of Zn dissolution from sphalerite concentrate by Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans was investigated. The highest rate of sphalerite bioleaching was obtained at particle size, pulp density and temperature of 38–150 μm,

Preparation of jarosite by Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans oxidation

Journal of Central South University of Technology, 2007
The formation of jarosite in the presence of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans (A. ferrooxidans) was researched to ascertain the conditions of producing minimum precipitation. The effects of salt concentration and pH on the characteristics of jarosite formed in K2SO4/(NH4)2SO4-FeSO4 inorganic salt solution and 9K medium were studied by using the ...

A comparison of bioleaching of covellite using pure cultures of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans and Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans or a mixed culture of Leptospirillum ferrooxidans and Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans

Hydrometallurgy, 2003
The aim of this investigation was to determine the efficacy of covellite bioleaching using pure cultures of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans or Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans and a mixed culture composed of At. thiooxidans and Leptospirillum ferrooxidans. The experiments were carried out in shake flasks with or without iron(II) (1 g/L as ferrous sulphate)

Combined effects of jarosite and visible light on chalcopyrite dissolution mediated by Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans.

Science of the Total Environment, 2019
Although jarosite and visible light are important factors for the formation of acid mine drainage (AMD), the effects of combined jarosite and visible light on chalcopyrite biodissolution have not been explored until now.
