Enamel solubility reduction by acidulated phosphate-fluoride (APF) treatment

abstract The enamel solubility reducing (ESR) potential of acidulated phosphate‐fluoride (APF) solutions containing varying amounts of F was studied. Commercial APF (1.23% F, pH 3.0) reduced solubility by about 80%. Fivefold dilutions of this APF were made with either phosphoric acid or water without significant effect on ESR potential.

Fluoride Acquisition in Vitro by Etched Enamel from Acidulated Phosphate-Fluoride Preparations

Fluoride uptake by acid-etched human enamel from acidulated phosphate-fluoride solutions was determined and compared with previous findings with sound enamel. Etched enamel acquired about five times more fluoride than sound enamel. The relative efficacy of different fluoride solutions was not always the same with etched and sound enamel.

Comparison of In Vitro Fluoride Uptake by Human and Bovine Enamel from Acidulated Phosphate-Fluoride Solutions

Sound human enamel and bovine enamel were treated with various acidulated phosphate-fluoride solutions. Fluoride uptake by human and bovine enamel was different for many of the solutions. This difference demonstrates that bovine enamel may not be an adequate substitute for human enamel in fluoride uptake studies.

Reaction of Acidulated Phosphate-Fluoride Solutions with Human Apatite

Finely pulverized human enamel was reacted with acidulated phosphate-fluoride solutions. The products were analyzed for fluoride content and examined by X-ray difjraction and infrared absorption. Fluoride content of the products and the amount of calcium fluoride formed increased with increasing reaction time, temperature, or both.
