Acinetobacter baumannii and Acinetobacter spp.
2017Acinetobacter baumannii is a bacterial pathogen increasingly identified in the clinical microbiology laboratory as a cause of infection in humans. Upon microscopic examination, A. baumannii appears as a Gram-negative coccobacillus, and it produces clear colonies when grown on MacConkey agar, indicating its inability to ferment lactose.

The Rise of Carbapenem-Resistant Acinetobacter baumannii
Current Pharmaceutical Design, 2012Acinetobacter spp. are Gram-negative bacteria that have become one of the most difficult pathogens to treat. The species A. baumannii, largely unknown 30 years ago, has risen to prominence particularly because of its ability to cause infections in immunocompromised patients.

Genetic Manipulation of Acinetobacter baumannii
Current Protocols in Microbiology, 2014Abstract Acinetobacter baumannii is a Gram‐negative nosocomial pathogen of clinical importance. A lack of genetic tools has hindered the research of this organism in the past; however, recently, various methods have been designed, modified, and optimized to facilitate the genetic manipulation of A. baumannii.

Optimizing Therapy for Acinetobacter baumannii
Seminars in Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, 2007Acinetobacter baumannii is a highly resilient, gram-negative coccobacillus that thrives within the unique and complex ecological setting of an intensive care unit. This evolving pathogen has now surpassed human capacity to create new antimicrobials, and has led physicians into a concerning era for hospital-acquired infections.

Quorum Sensing in Acinetobacter baumannii
2014Acinetobacter baumannii is an opportunistic nosocomial pathogen that causes severe infections especially in patients with compromised immune systems. Many Gram-negative pathogens regulate the expression of their virulence factors through cell density dependent N-acyl homoserine lactone (AHL)-mediated quorum-sensing (QS) system. A.

RecET-Mediated Recombineering in Acinetobacter baumannii
2019Acinetobacter baumannii rapidly acquires antibiotic resistance, and its genome encodes mechanisms to tolerate biocides and desiccation, enhancing its persistence in hospital settings. Tools to rapidly dissect the A. baumannii genome are needed to understand cellular factors that contribute to its resiliency at a genetic and mechanistic level.
