NirA is a Cyanide‐Tolerant Nitrite Reductase Which Protects Pseudomonas aeruginosa From Self‐Poisoning

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 17, Issue 6, December 2025.
Infection‐mediated oxygen limitation triggers P. aeruginosa cyanide production. Cyanide inhibits heme‐dependent enzymes, including NirB and NirS of the assimilatory and dissimilatory nitrate reduction pathways. The presence of cyanide upregulates nirA, which facilitates cyanide‐tolerant nitrite reduction, detoxifying the respiratory inhibitor nitrite ...

Risk Factor Assessment and Predictive Modeling for Ventilator‐Associated Pneumonia: Design and Clinical Implementation of an Artificial Intelligence‐Enhanced Early Detection Framework Using Multisource Data Analytics

open access: yesThe Clinical Respiratory Journal, Volume 19, Issue 12, December 2025.
This study developed an interpretable multimodal hybrid neural network integrating computed tomography radiomics, ventilator dynamics, and clinical indicators to predict ventilator‐associated pneumonia. The model achieved an area under curve of 0.86, enabled early warnings at 1.5 days prediagnosis, and increased appropriate antibiotic use rates by 23.8%

Lavandula angustifolia Essential Oil: GC–MS Composition, In Vitro Antimicrobial Activity, Vapor‐Phase Efficacy on Fruit and Vegetable Models, and Anti‐Escherichia coli Effect in Sous‐Vide Potatoes

open access: yesJournal of Food Safety, Volume 45, Issue 6, December 2025.
In‐depth investigation of the chemical and biological properties of Lavandula angustifolia essential oil. ABSTRACT This study evaluated the antimicrobial activity of Lavandula angustifolia essential oil (LAEO) in vitro and in the vapor phase (in situ) against selected bacteria and yeasts, and against Escherichia coli in a sous‐vide potato model, while ...

Panduratin A Induces Autophagy Through AMPK Activation Independent of mTOR Inhibition and Restricts Mycobacterium tuberculosis in Host Macrophages

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, Volume 124, Issue 6, Page 491-506, December 2025.
Panduratin A, a flavonoid from Boesenbergia rotunda, was identified as a potential autophagy inducer in macrophages, where it appeared to activate AMPK independently of mTOR. This activity enhanced colocalization of Mycobacterium tuberculosis with autophagosomes and lysosomes, leading to reduced intracellular bacterial survival.
