Acinetobacter calcoaceticus is Well Adapted to Withstand Intestinal Stressors and Modulate the Gut Epithelium [PDF]
Background: The gastrointestinal tract has been speculated to serve as a reservoir for Acinetobacter, however little is known about the ecological fitness of Acinetobacter strains in the gut. Likewise, not much is known about the ability of Acinetobacter

Profiling Antibiotic Resistance in Acinetobacter calcoaceticus [PDF]
Background: Acinetobacter spp. have emerged as troublesome pathogens due to their multi-drug resistance. The majority of the work to date has focused on the antibiotic resistance profile of Acinetobacter baumannii. Although A.

Acinetobacter calcoaceticus-baumannii complex prevalence, spatial-temporal distribution, and contamination sources in Canadian aquatic environments [PDF]
Acinetobacter calcoaceticus-baumannii (ACB) complex has been identified as a group of emerging opportunistic pathogens that cause nosocomial infections. The current study investigates the prevalence, distribution, and diversity of pathogenic ACB complex ...

Molecular Methods for Identification of Acinetobacter Species by Partial Sequencing of the rpoB and 16S rRNA Genes [PDF]
Background: Acinetobacter spp. is a diverse group of Gramnegative bacteria which are ubiquitous in soil and water, and an important cause of nosocomial infections. The purpose of this study was to identify a collection of Acinetobacter spp.

Dynamics of a Sporadic Nosocomial Acinetobacter calcoaceticus – Acinetobacter baumannii Complex Population [PDF]
Our objective was to improve current knowledge of sporadic (Spo) nosocomial Acinetobactercalcoaceticus-Acinetobacter baumannii (Acb) complex populations, and thus better understand the epidemiology of Spo and endemoepidemic (EE) strains. Between 1999 and

Drag reduction by Acinetobacter calcoaceticus BD4 [PDF]
The encapsulated bacterium Acinetobacter calcoaceticus BD4 at a density of 3.6 X 10(9) cells per ml reduced the friction of turbulent water in a narrow pipe by 55%. This drag reduction was due to the tightly bound polysaccharide capsules (0.4 mg per ml) of culture. Capsule-deficient mutants of BD4 failed to reduce drag.
