Phage Cocktail Designed for Wastewater Bioremediation Has Limited Effect on Crustacean Filtrator Microbiome Diversity and Health

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 2, April 2026.
Phage cocktail designed for wastewater bioremediation is safe for freshwater filtrators. D. magna cultured with phages showed no significant changes in life‐history parameters and minor shifts in the microbial composition with increase in alpha diversity.

Examining Short Temporal Changes in Intertidal Macroalgal Microbiomes at 'Ewa Beach, O'Ahu, Hawai'i: Some Hosts Varied While Others Remained Stable

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 2, April 2026.
We examined microbiome variability in seven macroalgal species over 5 days at an intertidal bench in 'Ewa Beach, O'ahu, Hawai'i. Microbial communities of some red and brown algae fluctuated, whilst green algae remained stable. Temporal patterns varied by species and potentially by differences in intertidal positioning and exposure to environmental ...

Microbiota Composition Shaped by Seasonal Variation and Environmental Compartments Affects the Abundance of Antimicrobial‐Resistant Bacteria in Indonesian Aquaculture

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 2, April 2026.
Antibiotics reshape fish gut microbiota, promoting antimicrobial‐resistant bacteria (ARB) emergence. In the dry season, ARB accumulate in water and dominate a specific niche. Wet‐season hydrological changes introduce new bacteria, disturb native communities and drive shifts in AMB abundance and the emergence of novel resistant taxa across compartments.

Exploring the Diversity and Function of the SPFH‐Domain Containing Proteins in Pseudomonas aeruginosa

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 2, April 2026.
We characterised nine SPFH‐domain containing proteins in Pseudomonas aeruginosa PA14 and found remarkable sequence divergence and scattered evolutionary distribution. Functional analyses showed that single or multiple deletions had no detectable impact on growth, motility, biofilm formation, stress resistance or virulence under laboratory conditions ...

Preimmunization of SPF Mice With Capsid Virus‐like Particle Has no Effect on CD8+ Immune Memory and Skin Inflammation in an Ovalbumin‐Induced Dermatitis Model

open access: yesClinical and Translational Science, Volume 19, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Specific pathogen‐free (SPF) laboratory mice have in recent years been criticized for their limited bench to bedside translational value, specifically within immunological and inflammatory research, due to their immature immune system caused by restricted pathogen exposure.

Antibiotic‐Loaded Calcium Sulphate Beads in Wound Management: A Scoping Review of Emerging Applications in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

open access: yesInternational Wound Journal, Volume 23, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Calcium sulphate (CS) is a fully synthetic, sterile, bioabsorbable biomaterial extensively applied for the management of infected tissues and postoperative dead spaces resulting from surgical interventions. Residual DS may facilitate hematoma accumulation and bacterial colonisation, thereby heightening the risk of surgical‐site infections ...
