Acoustic Emission for the detection of shaft-to-seal rubbing in large power generation turbines [PDF]
Proceedings of the 27th European Conference on Acoustic Emission Testing (EWGAE 2006), 20-22 September 2006, Cardiff, Wales, UKAn empirical investigation is undertaken in order to assess the potential of the AE technique for the detection of seal-to ...

On the Anatomy of Acoustic Emission
Abrupt, local frictional fault failure comprises a displacement that is normally accompanied by acoustic emission (AE)—an impulsive elastic wave broadcast with an amplitude proportional to particle velocity. The aggregate of these displacements is the basic fault motion.

Review of the Uses of Acoustic Emissions in Monitoring Cavitation Erosion and Crack Propagation
Nowadays, hydropower plants are being used to compensate for the variable power produced by the new fluctuating renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power, and to stabilise the grid.

Observations of acoustic emission in a hydrodynamic bearing [PDF]
Purpose - Numerous studies have been conducted in the field of acoustic emission (AE) technology applied to rotating machine fault diagnosis. Principally, most of the work to date has been focused on correlating AE activity to the defect condition on ...

Application of acoustic emission to seeded gear fault detection [PDF]
Acoustic emission (AE) is gaining ground as a non-destructive technique for health diagnosis on rotating machinery. There are vast opportunities for development of the AE technique on various forms of rotating machinery, including gearboxes.

Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Alumina: Effects of Scanning Strategies on External and Internal Defects
This study investigates how scanning strategies affect pure alumina in laser powder bed fusion. Linear 45° scanning yields uniform surfaces but high porosity, while the island‐concentric strategy provides higher density with through‐holes favorable for infiltration. Findings highlight pathways toward optimizing defect‐free alumina parts.

An initial investigation on the potential applicability of Acoustic Emission to rail track fault detection. [PDF]
In light of recent accidents in the rail industry, the assessment of the mechanical integrity of rail-track is of vital importance. This encompasses the integrity of the track due to rolling contact fatigue and surface wear. Whilst numerous techniques

Acoustic Emission Characteristics of Galling Behavior from Dry Scratch Tests at Slow Sliding Speed
Galling wear, a severe form of wear, is a known problem in sheet metal forming. As the wear state is not directly observable in closed tribosystems, such as in industrial sheet metal forming processes, indirect tool wear monitoring techniques for ...
