Relative Indications for Radiosurgery and Microsurgery for Acoustic Schwannoma

2003
The physical and biological principles underlying the use of radiosurgery for the treatment of vestibular schwannomas of up to 2.5 cm in diameter are reviewed together with the historical controversies that have surrounded its introduction. The results in terms of mortality, quality of life, preservation of facial movement and hearing, incidence of ...

Limitations of α-acoustic diversity indices in assessing invertebrate sounds in coral reefs

Bioacoustics
Acoustic indices were developed to monitor aerial/terrestrial soundscapes. However, recent studies have revealed they can be unsuitable for inferring marine fish sound diversity. Less is understood about their use for benthic invertebrate sounds.

Relationships between objective acoustic indices and acoustic comfort evaluation in nonacoustic spaces

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2004
Much attention has been paid to acoustic spaces such as concert halls and recording studios, whereas research on nonacoustic buildings/spaces has been rather limited, especially from the viewpoint of acoustic comfort. In this research a series of case studies has been carried out on this topic, considering various spaces including shopping mall atrium ...

Indications for hearing preservation in acoustic tumor surgery.

The American journal of otology, 1992
This study addresses the problem of how to counsel patients with acoustic tumors concerning the issue of hearing preservation. Rather than the traditional yes or no answer, we wish to give the patient the probability that hearing can be preserved given the size of the tumor and the patient's preoperative hearing level.
