Nano-crystalline inclusions as a low-pass filter for thermal transport in a-Si
We use atomistic simulations to study the resonant acoustic modes and compare different calculations of the acoustic mean-free path in amorphous systems with nanometric crystalline spherical inclusions.

Physical Properties and Environmental Impact of Sound Barrier Materials Based on Fly Ash Cenosphere
Traffic noise and solid waste pollution are two major problems that restrict urban development and affect urban environments. In this study, a new kind of cement-based material for sound barriers was prepared using industrial waste fly ash cenosphere to ...

Effective acoustic properties of a meta-material consisting of small Helmholtz resonators [PDF]
We investigate the acoustic properties of meta-materials that are inspired by sound-absorbing structures. We show that it is possible to construct meta-materials with frequency-dependent effective properties, with large and/or negative permittivities ...

Acoustic Properties of Wood [PDF]
A square redwood plate was progressively cut, removing crossgrain and longitudinal-grain strips, with simultaneous acoustic measurements made of strips (beams) and plate. Findings show that regions near the ends of a free beam or plate do not contribute to losses.

Two-fluid hydrodynamic model for semiconductors [PDF]
The hydrodynamic Drude model (HDM) has been successful in describing the optical properties of metallic nanostructures, but for semiconductors where several different kinds of charge carriers are present, an extended theory is required.

Four‐point bending tests are conducted in an argon atmosphere on commercial MgO‐C brick grades with and without MgO‐C recyclate from room temperature up to 1300 °C. No detrimental effect of the MgO‐C recyclates on bending strength is found. Instead, a decisive influence of the total carbon content is observed, with lower total carbon contents ...
