Acoustic Properties of Wood [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1969
A square redwood plate was progressively cut, removing crossgrain and longitudinal-grain strips, with simultaneous acoustic measurements made of strips (beams) and plate. Findings show that regions near the ends of a free beam or plate do not contribute to losses.

Two-fluid hydrodynamic model for semiconductors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The hydrodynamic Drude model (HDM) has been successful in describing the optical properties of metallic nanostructures, but for semiconductors where several different kinds of charge carriers are present, an extended theory is required.

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Acoustic Properties of La3Ga5.3Ta0.5Al0.2O14 Crystal

open access: yesIzvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii. Materialy Elektronnoi Tekhniki = Materials of Electronics Engineering, 2015
Development and search for new advanced materials of the lanthanum gallium silicate group with unique thermal properties is of great importance for the development of acoustoelectronics based on volume and surface acoustic waves. The processes of surface acoustic wave excitation and propagation in the La3Ga5.3Ta0.5Al0.2O14 crystal was studied using a ...

Compressional wave dispersion due to rock matrix stiffening by clay squirt flow

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2016
The standard Biot‐Gassmann theory of poroelasticity fails to explain strong compressional wave velocity dispersion experimentally observed in 12 tight siltstone with clay‐filled pores.

A Test Method for Acoustic Emission Properties of Natural Cellulose Fiber-Reinforced Composites

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
To test the acoustic performance of fiber-reinforced composites for replacing wood, an acoustic vibration test method is developed. For evaluation of the test method, composites are manufactured using hemp and ramie embedded in epoxy, through vacuum ...

Hemispheric specialization in selective attention and short-term memory: a fine-coarse model of left- and right-ear disadvantages. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Serial short-term memory is impaired by irrelevant sound, particularly when the sound changes acoustically. This acoustic effect is larger when the sound is presented to the left compared to the right ear (a left-ear disadvantage).
