Airframe Noise Simulations of a Full-Scale Aircraft [PDF]

open access: yes
Computational results for a full-scale simulation of a Gulfstream G-III aircraft are presented. In support of a NASA airframe noise flight test campaign, Exa Corporations lattice Boltzmann PowerFLOW solver was used to perform time-accurate simulations of

Mapping of Physiological Signals From Wireless Battery‐Free Implants With Plane‐Wave Ultrasound Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Combined approach of electromagnetic (Power) and ultrasound (data harvesting) waves is proposed to address the miniaturized ultrasonic implants. Electromagnetic waves trigger the piezoelectric element to generate the acoustic pulse which is modulated by the variations in the sensor's impedance.

Automated Classification of Transient Contamination in Stationary Acoustic Data [PDF]

open access: yes
An automated procedure for the classification of transient contamination of stationary acoustic data is proposed and analyzed. The procedure requires the assumption that the stationary acoustic data of interest can be modeled as a band-limited, Gaussian ...

Lattice Boltzmann simulations of acoustic streaming.

open access: yes, 2016
Summary: Lattice Boltzmann simulations are used to model the acoustic streaming produced by the interaction of an acoustic wave with a boundary. Comparison is made with analytic results for Rayleigh streaming in the appropriate limits, and we show how deviations from those limits affect the streaming.

Hierarchical Multi‐Material Architectures With Gradient Design for Dynamic‐Range Flexible Tactile Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Hierarchical multi‐material TPMS lattices are engineered as flexible tactile sensors by combining soft and stiff elastomeric layers with a conformal conductive coating. The bilayer architecture delivers sensitivity at low pressures while maintaining a broad detectable range under large loads, enabling reliable pressure and vibration monitoring for ...

Chameleonic Color‐Variable Microbead Emitters for Multilevel Spectroscopic Encryption from Visible to Infrared Wavelengths

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Whispering‐gallery‐mode microresonators with sharp resonant peaks enable photonic barcoding. Similar to a chameleon, a rare‐earth‐free microcavity with π‐conjugated PAHs enables visibleto‐near infrared color generation from a single microbead. The unique resonat emission (spectral barcode) can be dynamically transformed via excitation wavelength change,

Information Transmission Strategies for Self‐Organized Robotic Aggregation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
In this review, we discuss how information transmission influences the neighbor‐based self‐organized aggregation of swarm robots. We focus specifically on local interactions regarding information transfer and categorize previous studies based on the functions of the information exchanged.

Ablation of cervical facet joints is safe and feasible with two magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound transducers as demonstrated by thermal simulations

open access: yesInternational Journal of Hyperthermia
Background Chronic neck pain due to cervical facet joint degenerative disease is a leading cause of disability. Denervation of the facet joint capsule with magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) ablation could provide a noninvasive ...
