Acoustic simulation of a patient's obstructed airway

Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering, 2015
This research focuses on the numerical simulation of stridor; a high pitched, abnormal noise, resulting from turbulent airflow and vibrating tissue through a partially obstructed airway. Characteristics of stridor noise are used by medical doctors as indication for location and size of the obstruction.

Cerebellar Atrophy Simulating Acoustic Neurinoma

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1967
THE BATTERY of audiological tests, sometimes referred to as "site of lesion" tests, has reached a point of sophistication that makes it possible for the audiologist to indicate whether the lesion is in the cochlear or retrocochlear portion of the auditory pathways.

Diffraction Culling for Virtual-Acoustic Simulations

Acta Acustica united with Acustica, 2008
Acoustic simulations of complex virtual environments typically are created with geometrical-acoustics techniques. Such simulations can be augmented with edge diffraction modeling for improved accuracy, but not without a significant increase in processing time due to the additional propagation paths which must be considered and the computational ...

Acoustic emission simulator

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1991
The invention simulates acoustic emission signals produced by crack growth within a structure so that listening equipment may properly be calibrated to listen for acoustic emission signals from actual structural crack growth. The invention has several embodiments which generate acoustic emission signals from a crack growing in a specimen such that the ...

Simulating Acoustics of a Room Using MATLAB

2019 22nd International Conference on Control Systems and Computer Science (CSCS), 2019
A speech given inside a big room will always be distorted by the undesirable effect of echo. Taking advantage of the linearities of sound reflections, we propose a method for simulating voices affected by reverberation in different rooms. Our approach is based on the Room Impulse Response (RIR) method and our technique reveals an easy and intuitive way

Software for simulation of indoor acoustic fields

The IEEE Region 8 EUROCON 2003. Computer as a Tool., 2004
This is a new software for the simulation of acoustic fields in small and intermediate rectangular rooms. This software is based on mirror image modeling and it can be used for acoustic design and education. The simulated acoustic field can be presented graphically in a 3D view as a distribution of sound pressure in the room, or in a 2D view as curves ...

Simulation of acoustic fields of synphase electromagnetic-acoustic transducers

Russian Journal of Nondestructive Testing, 2013
A model of the formation of acoustic fields of a synphase EMA transducer of longitudinal and transverse waves in the form of a phased array of elements with a current is proposed. This model takes several parameters into account, such as the number and dimensions of individual elements of the array and its aperture, the operating frequency, and the gap

Numerical Simulation of 3D Acoustic Logging

2007
A Finite-difference method for simulation of sonic waves propagating in a vicinity of a borehole filled with fluid and surrounded by a 3D heterogeneous elastic medium is developed. The method utilizes an explicit second order of approximation FD scheme on staggered grids that approximates the elastodynamic system of equations in cylindrical coordinates.

Benchmarking for acoustic simulation software

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2008
The validation of acoustic simulation software is still an obscure and imprecise matter. Validation studies of commercial implementations are rarely provided by vendors which are reluctant to show their product weakness. On the contrary in open academic implementations validation studies are one of the keys to make them used, rather than marketing ...

Simulation of acoustical parameters of churches in a virtual acoustics laboratory

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America
Current ISO standards for acoustical assessment limit the use of traditional mono-dimensional microphones for measuring equipment. However, microphone arrays offer more accurate spatial information compared to traditional microphones. This presents an opportunity to enhance research on architectural acoustics and preserve the acoustics of cultural ...
