Ultrasound-induced acoustophoretic motion of microparticles in three dimensions [PDF]

open access: yes
We derive analytical expressions for the three-dimensional (3D) acoustophoretic motion of spherical microparticles in rectangular microchannels. The motion is generated by the acoustic radiation force and the acoustic streaming-induced drag force.

A Non‐Reciprocal Architected Porous Medium

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In several fluid flow, energy‐dumping, and energy‐harvesting applications, a dominant flow direction or dominant resistance direction is desirable. In this study, we propose a simple modular geometry that doubles flow resistance in one direction relative to the opposite direction, while maintaining laminar viscous flow.

Theory of pressure acoustics with boundary layers and streaming in curved elastic cavities [PDF]

open access: yes
The acoustic fields and streaming in a confined fluid depend strongly on the acoustic boundary layer forming near the wall. The width of this layer is typically much smaller than the bulk length scale set by the geometry or the acoustic wavelength, which

Suppression of Acoustic Streaming in Shape-Optimized Channels [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2020
Acoustic streaming is an ubiquitous phenomenon resulting from time-averaged nonlinear dynamics in oscillating fluids. In this theoretical study, we show that acoustic streaming can be suppressed by two orders of magnitude in major regions of a fluid by optimizing the shape of its confining walls.

Vacuum Formed Spherical Triboelectric Architecture Overcoming Direction Constraints for 3D‐Omnidirectional Ultrasonic Energy Receiving

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
First vacuum formed spherical triboelectric converter for 3D‐omnidirectional ultrasonic energy receiving, with configurable DC or pulse outputs for versatile applications. ABSTRACT Ultrasound‐driven triboelectric nanogenerators (UD‐TENGs) have emerged as promising ultrasonic energy converters for underwater and biomedical applications.

Three dimensional acoustic tweezers with vortex streaming

open access: yesCommunications Physics, 2021
Although acoustic and optical tweezers are widely used, it is challenging to create a 3D trap with a simple set-up. Here, acoustic vortex streaming is combined with radiation force to realise 3D trapping of particles in a fluid.

Nanoparticle Dynamics in Composite Hydrogels Exposed to Low-Frequency Focused Ultrasound

open access: yesGels, 2023
Pulsed focused ultrasound (FUS) in combination with microbubbles has been shown to improve delivery and penetration of nanoparticles in tumors. To understand the mechanisms behind this treatment, it is important to evaluate the contribution of FUS ...
