Observation of Emergent Dirac Physics at the Surfaces of Acoustic Higher‐Order Topological Insulators

open access: yesAdvanced Science, 2022
Using 3D sonic crystals as acoustic higher‐order topological insulators (HOTIs), 2D surface states described by spin‐1 Dirac equations at the interfaces between the two sonic crystals with distinct topology but the same crystalline symmetry are ...

Optical Signature of Moiré Superlattices Formed by Twisted SrTiO3 Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We discover optical signatures from bonded interfaces in twisted SrTiO3 moiré superlattices, including low‐frequency Raman vibrational modes and strong second‐harmonic generation, consistent with strong interlayer coupling inferred from cross‐sectional electron microscopy and ab initio calculations. ABSTRACT Moiré superlattices formed at the interfaces

Topology optimization of acoustic bandgap crystals for topological insulators

open access: yesEngineering with Computers
AbstractRecent advances in topology optimization methods have driven the development of bandgap crystals. These artificial materials with maximized operational bandwidth provide the basis for wave manipulation and investigating the topological phase of matter. However, it is still challenging to efficiently design acoustic bandgap crystals via existing

Self‐Assembled Inorganic Nanomembrane Tubes: Rolled‐Up Piezoelectrics for Microacoustic Wave‐Based Actuators and Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a self‐assembly process to generate free‐standing piezoelectric nanomembranes, forming ultracompact microtubular acoustic wave sensors and actuators. The miniaturized 3D piezoelectric platform reported in this work can be applied in telecommunication, energy harvesting, and acoustofluidics. Moreover, the 3D self‐assembly can add

Acoustic square-root topological insulators

open access: yes, 2020
Square-root topological states are new topological phases, whose topological property is inherited from the square of the Hamiltonian. We realize the first-order and second-order square-root topological insulators in phononic crystals, by putting additional cavities on connecting tubes in the acoustic Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model and the honeycomb ...

Type‐II Dirac Fermions in Monolayer In2O: Interplay of Magnetotransport, Spin Hall Effect, and Superconductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
First‐principles calculations reveal that monolayer In2O${\rm In}_2{\rm O}$ hosts type‐II Dirac fermions near the Fermi level, which split into Weyl points under spin‐orbit coupling. The material exhibits negative and giant magnetoresistance, a pronounced spin Hall effect, and phonon‐mediated superconductivity at 1.5 K, establishing it as a unique ...

Surface optical and bulk acoustic phonons in the topological insulator, Bi2Se2Te [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Physics Letters, 2015
We explore the phonon dynamics in thin films of the topological insulator material Bi2Se2Te using ultrafast pump-probe spectroscopy. The time resolved differential reflectivity in these films exhibit fast and slow oscillations. We have given a careful analysis of variation of phonon frequency as a function of film thickness, which we attribute to the ...
