The use of acoustics in space exploration

open access: yes, 2007
In recent years increased attention has been paid to the potential uses of acoustics forextraterrestrial exploration. The extent to which acoustics per se is used in these studiesvaries greatly. First, there are the cases in which acoustics is simply the

The comparison of two types sensors for ammonia emission continual measurement

open access: yesResearch in Agricultural Engineering, 2005
Measurement of the ammonia emissions by two different types of sensors (PHOTO ACOUSTICS analyzer INNOVA and SOLID STATE sensor SP-53) was carried out in laboratory with one material of litter, wood-shavings (with dry or wet material). The initial ammonia

Enhanced sum frequency generation for ultrasensitive characterization of plasmonic modes

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2020
Highly sensitive characterization of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) modes lays the solid foundation for wide SPR-related applications. Herein, we discover that these SPR modes based on all-metal nanostructures without any probed molecule can be ...

New Kinds of Acoustic Solitons

open access: yes, 2007
We find that the modified sine-Gordon equation belonging to the class of the soliton equations describes the propagation of extremely short transverse acoustic pulses through the low-temperature crystal containing paramagnetic impurities with effective ...

Rapid Fabrication of Self‐Propelled and Steerable Magnetic Microcatheters for Precision Medicine

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A rapid Joule heating fabrication method for the production of self‐propelling, adaptive microcatheters, with tunable stiffness and integrated microfluidic channels is presented. Demonstrated through three microrobotic designs, including a steerable guiding catheter, an untethered wave‐crawling TubeBot, and a distal‐end propelled microcatheter, it was ...

Acoustic detection of electrostatic suppression of the Leidenfrost state.

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2018
At high temperatures, a droplet can rest on a cushion of its vapor (the Leidenfrost effect). Application of an electric field across the vapor gap fundamentally eliminates the Leidenfrost state by attracting liquid towards the surface.

Artificial Intelligence‐Assisted Workflow for Transmission Electron Microscopy: From Data Analysis Automation to Materials Knowledge Unveiling

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
AI‐Assisted Workflow for (Scanning) Transmission Electron Microscopy: From Data Analysis Automation to Materials Knowledge Unveiling. Abstract (Scanning) transmission electron microscopy ((S)TEM) has significantly advanced materials science but faces challenges in correlating precise atomic structure information with the functional properties of ...

An Ultrasonic analog for a laser

open access: yes, 2005
We report measurements on ultrasonic systems analogous to random lasers. One system entails unstable ultrasonic feedback between distinct transducers, another involves a piezoelectric device that emits spontaneously and by stimulation.

Transient and steady-state scattering of acoustic waves from elastic objects in fluids, and of elastic waves from inclusions in solid media—Direct and inverse scattering aspects [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1991
This paper considers scattering problems associated with: (a) the simpler case of acoustic wave scattering by an elastic body in a fluid, and (b) the more complex situation of elastic waves scattered by a spherical (fluid or elastic) inhomogeneity in a solid host medium.
