Endozoicomonas acroporae sp. nov., isolated from Acropora coral

open access: yesInternational Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2017
Strain Acr-14T, isolated from Acropora coral, was characterized by using a polyphasic taxonomy approach. Cells of strain Acr-14T were Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, non-motile, poly-β-hydroxybutyrate-accumulating, rod-shaped and formed creamy white colonies. Optimal growth occurred at 30 °C, pH 7 and in the presence of 2 % NaCl.

Acropora cervicornis and Acropora palmata cultured on a low maintenance line nursery design in The Bahamas.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2022
Acroporid corals are one of the most important corals in the Caribbean because of their role in building coral reefs. Unfortunately, Acropora corals have suffered a severe decline in the last 50 years thus prompting the development of many restoration ...

Biological controls to manage Acropora-eating flatworms in coral aquaculture

open access: yesAquaculture Environment Interactions, 2020
Coral aquaculture is expanding to supply the marine ornamental trade and active coral reef restoration. A common pest of Acropora corals is the Acropora-eating flatworm Prosthiostomum acroporae, which can cause colonial mortality at high infestation ...

Using Seawater to Document Coral-Zoothanthella Diversity: A New Approach to Coral Reef Monitoring Using Environmental DNA

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2018
Frequent, high-density coral monitoring is essential to understand coral reef ecosystems. For this purpose, we developed a novel method for simultaneous monitoring of Acropora corals and their symbiont, Symbiodinium, from environmental DNA (eDNA) in ...

Comparative genomics highlight the importance of lineage-specific gene families in evolutionary divergence of the coral genus, Montipora

open access: yesBMC Ecology and Evolution, 2022
Background Scleractinian corals of the genus Montipora (Anthozoa, Cnidaria) possess some unusual biological traits, such as vertical transmission of algal symbionts; however, the genetic bases for those traits remain unknown.

Estimation of the growth and survival rate of various species of corals (Pocillopora damicornis) and (Acropora calthrata) during the use of Biorock technology in the Chabahar Bay [PDF]

open access: yesبوم‌شناسی آبزیان, 2019
Using the electric field in the biorock method increases the growth and survival rate in a wide variety of coral species. In this regard, we evaluated the effects biorock method on the growth and survival of coral Acropora calthrata and Pocillopora ...

Genes possibly related to symbiosis in early life stages of Acropora tenuis inoculated with Symbiodinium microadriaticum

open access: yesCommunications Biology, 2023
Due to the ecological importance of mutualism between reef-building corals and symbiotic algae (Family Symbiodiniaceae), various transcriptomic studies on coral-algal symbiosis have been performed; however, molecular mechanisms, especially genes ...
