Eunotiaceae (Bacillariophyceae) em igarapés da Amazônia Central, Manaus e Presidente Figueiredo, Brasil Eunotiaceae (Bacillariophyceae) from central Amazon rivers, Manaus and Presidente Figueiredo districts, Brasil

open access: yesActa Amazonica, 2007

Palaeolimnological assessment of lake acidification and environmental change in the Athabasca Oil Sands Region, Alberta

open access: yesJournal of Limnology, 2010
Exploitation of the Athabasca Oil Sands has expanded hugely over the last 40 years. Regional emissions of oxidised sulphur and nitrogen compounds increased rapidly over this period and similar emissions have been linked to lake acidification in other ...

Taxonomic descriptions and evolutionary implications of Middle Eocene pennate diatoms representing the extant genera Oxyneis, Actinella and Nupela (Bacillariophyceae)

open access: yesPlant Ecology and Evolution, 2010
Background and aims – The majority of freshwater diatom lineages appear to have evolved before or during the Eocene, with rapid radiation occurring in the Miocene. However, only a few accurately dated fossil localities are available to test this assertion, resulting in an overall poor understanding of the biostratigraphy and early evolution of these ...

Actinella guianensis Grunow (Eunotiaceae): analysis of the type material and the description of Actinella cordiformis sp. nov.

open access: yesFottea
Abstract: The taxonomic concept of Actinella guianensis Grunow is well-established in the literature. However, during the analysis of recent samples from two Amazon blackwater habitats, we found an uncommon and oddly shaped Actinella taxon, which corresponds to what is reported in Grunow's drawings in Van Heurck's Atlas as the type species of A ...

Additional data on morphology of Actinella leontopithecus-rosalia Costa (Bacillariophyta, Eunotiaceae)

Phytotaxa, 2016
Actinella leontopithecus-rosalia is a poorly known diatom described from southeast Brazil. Its similarity with other Actinella taxa and the lack of morphological data make it difficult the species recognition by researchers. This study addresses unpublished morphologic and morphometric details of frustule and expands the geographic distribution of A ...

The Diatom (Bacillariophyceae) GenusActinellaLewis in Hawai‘i1

Pacific Science, 2013
We review the occurrence of the diatom genus Actinella Lewis in Hawai‘i. Based on collections from the islands of Kaua‘i, Moloka‘i, and Hawai‘i, we have documented the presence of three species of the genus. Using light and scanning electron microscopy, we illustrate these species, two of which are new to science and described here.

Two new diatom species (Bacillariophyceae) from Brazilian floodplain: Actinella hermes-moreirae sp. nov. and Gomphonema mutunensis sp. nov.

Phytotaxa, 2019
Floodplains are heterogeneous ecosystems that occupy a large area in the neotropic regions, which show great diatom diversity. During a floristic survey of periphytic and sedimentary samples in a swamp from the Upper Paraná River Floodplain in Brazil, a new species of Actinella Lewis and Gomphonema Ehrenberg (Bacillariophyceae) were found.

Six newActinella(Bacillariophyta) species from Papua New Guinea, Australia and New Zealand: further evidence for widespread diatom endemism in the Australasian region

European Journal of Phycology, 2001
Examination of sediment samples from oligo-and dystrophic ponds, lakes and streams in Papua New Guinea, Australia and New Zealand revealed a hitherto unknown diversity of the diatom genus Actinella Lewis. Six new species are proposed, viz. Actinella aotearoaia sp. nov., A. giluwensis sp. nov., A indistincta sp. nov., A. muylaertii sp. nov., A. parva sp.

Morphology, ecology and distribution of Actinella brasiliensis (Eunotiaceae, Bacillariophyta), a rare species for Russia

Novosti sistematiki nizshikh rastenii
Actinella brasiliensis, a rare diatom for Russia, was first found in Yakutia. As previous detailed studies of this species using SEM are limited, we provide an amended description of its morphology, as well as a comparison of our data with the results of previous studies.
