Polyoxometalates for Health, Electronics, Energy, and the Environment: Challenges, Opportunities, and Future Horizons

open access: yesChemistryEurope, Volume 4, Issue 5, May 2026.
Polyoxometalates (POMs), illustrated as lemon‐like cars racing along a winding road, symbolize the accelerating progress of POM research toward technological applications. Global research communities, recent advances, and emerging opportunities highlight how coordinated efforts drive the transition of POM science from molecular discovery to deployable ...

Electron correlation and spin-orbit coupling effects in US3 and USe3

open access: yes, 2012
A systematic density functional theory (DFT)+U study is conducted to investigate the electron correlation and spin-orbit coupling (SOC) effects in US3 and USe3. Our calculations reveal that inclusion of the U term is essential to get energy band gaps for

A Stepwise Approach to 1,4,10,13‐Tetraaza‐18‐Crown‐6 Ether

open access: yesChemistryOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, May 2026.
A two‐step synthetic strategy to tetraaza‐18‐crown‐6 was developed to overcome the low yield of the conventional one‐step method. Optimized conditions significantly suppressed formation of the undesired nine‐membered ring. A three‐fold increase in yield of the macrocyclization step was obtained, or two‐fold when column chromatography was avoided. A two‐

Parity shift and beat staggering structure of octupole bands in a collective model for quadrupole-octupole deformed nuclei

open access: yes, 2006
We propose a collective model formalism which describes the strong parity shift observed in low-lying spectra of nuclei with octupole deformations together with the fine rotational band structure developed at higher angular momenta.

Local Structure and Vacancy Distribution in Transition Metal Carbides: Results From High‐Resolution 13C NMR Spectroscopy

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 5, May 2026.
The local carbon environment in the refractory transition metal carbides ZrC, HfC, NbC, and TaC was studied using high‐resolution magic angle spinning 13C NMR spectroscopy. Results show that carbon nuclei with next nearest neighbor vacant sites or oxygen/nitrogen impurities are distinguishable through 13C NMR, and that the technique can be used to ...

Designing ligands for radiological safety: Oxasapphyrins in actinide sequestration

open access: yesRadiation Protection and Environment
The search for suitable macrocyclic ligands for efficient sequestering of the radioactive actinide ions has been a fundamental topic of research. This search for chelating agents is prevalent in the field of radiation protection as well, since both the ...
