A proteometabolomic study of Actinidia deliciosa fruit development
Journal of Proteomics, 2018Green-fleshed kiwifruit is worldwide appreciated for its flavor and macronutrients that are related to its physiological development. Fruit ripe stage for harvesting does not correspond to an optimal edible condition due to firmness/acidity pome characteristics; this is overcome with postharvest fruit processing.

DNA dodecaploid plants detected among somaclones of Actinidia deliciosa var. deliciosa cv. Hayward
Plant Cell Reports, 1995Ninety two adventitious shoots (somaclones) were regenerated from leaf-derived callus of Actinidia deliciosa var. deliciosa cv. Hayward. Each somaclone was multiplied in vitro through axillary bud culture to produce several individual clonal shoots. A total of 671 shoots were exflasked but only 223 (33%) resulted in rooted plants.

A natural sex mutant in kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa)
New Zealand Journal of Crop and Horticultural Science, 2004A kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa) natural sex mutant is described. The bud mutation occurred in a mature male vine and caused a gender change from male to female. The mutant (ser, sex reversal) carries apparently perfect flowers, with a well developed ovary and styles, but produces pollen that does not germinate and does not fertilise female genotypes.

Annals of Botany, 1994Abstract Dry, powdery pollen grains were expected from 'buzz pollinated' flower species. However, vibration of Actinidia deliciosa (kiwifruit) anthers (a buzz pollinated species) by a mechanical shaker, at similar vibrations to Bombus terrestris caused clumps of pollen joined by small droplets of tapetal fluid to be ejected.

Gender variation in Actinidia deliciosa, the kiwifruit
Sexual Plant Reproduction, 1991Flower and fruit characters were measured in ten female, five male and five fruiting male selections of A. deliciosa var deliciosa (A. Chev) Liang and Ferguson. Flowers from female vines had functional pistils, which contained many ovules. Stamens appeared to be fully developed but produced only empty pollen grains.
