Hemolysin patterns of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae
Journal of Clinical Microbiology, 1990The secreted hemolytic activities produced by the reference strains and field isolates of the 12 serotypes and 2 subtypes of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae were analyzed. Serotype 1 produced a Ca2(+)-inducible hemolysin, which was previously characterized as a 105-kilodalton protein and was named hemolysin I (HlyI).

Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans Prosthetic Valve Endocarditis
Clinical Infectious Diseases, 1988Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans, a fastidious gram-negative bacillus, has been reported as the cause of prosthetic valve endocarditis in 11 patients. Two additional patients are reported and the literature is reviewed. All cases occurred greater than 1 year after implantation of the prosthesis.

Endocarditis Caused by Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans
Southern Medical Journal, 1979A case of endocarditis caused by Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans is described and 18 cases are reviewed. Clinical features of endocarditis caused by A actinomycetemcomitans and antibiotic susceptibility are reviewed. Because of the relative resistance of A actinomycetemcomitans to penicillin and ampicillin, high doses of either penicillin or ...

Inducible bacteriophages of Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans
Current Microbiology, 1995Doses of 0.1 to 1.0 micrograms/ml of mitomycin C induced cell lysis of six of eight strains of Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans tested. Infectious phages were induced from ATCC strains 43717, 29524, 33384, and 43719; non-plaque-forming, possibly defective phages were induced from ATCC strains 29522 and 29523.

[Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans endocarditis].
Harefuah, 1993Bacterial endocarditis caused by Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans (AA) is an extremely rare disease. AA, a gram negative cocco-bacillus, normally resides in the oral cavity. It is involved mostly in local oral cavity infections, but severe systemic infections caused by it have been reported. We describe a 63-year-old man with endocarditis caused by

Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans endocarditis.
Canadian Medical Association journal, 1978Two patients had infective endocarditis due to Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans. One, a 52-year-old woman with a prosthetic aortic valve, was successfully treated with carbenicillin and gentamicin. The other, a 47-year old man with calcific aortic valve disease, required emergency valvectomy and prosthetic valve replacement and responded to a ...

Organisms of the genus Actinobacillus were first described by Lignieres and Spitz (1902) in actinomycotic lesions in cattle in Argentina. The authors referred to this organism as “l’actinobacille” based on its morphology and its association with the pathological lesion. In 1910, Brumpt proposed the name of Actinobacillus lignieresii.
