Tongue Actinomycetoma Due to Actinomadura madurae: A Rare Clinical Presentation

A 60-year-old male farmer presented with tongue swelling of 1-month duration. Local oral clinical examinations showed a painless firm mass in the anterolateral aspect of the anterior third of the tongue. Fine needle aspiration for cytology confirmed the diagnosis of tongue actinomycetoma due to Actinomadura madurae.

Minor prodiginine pigments from actinomadura madurae and actinomadura pelletieri

AbstractFive minor prodiginine pigments were isolated from Actinomadura madurae and A. pelletieri fermentations. Two of the pigments were shown to be methylcyclooctylprodiginine (7) and ethylcyclononylprodiginine (8). For the others, structures containing oxygen functions in the aliphatic chains (11, 12 and 13) were suggested.

Mycetoma Caused by Actinomadura (Streptomyces) madurae

The actinomycete Actinomadura madurae has been isolated for the first time in South Africa from a case of mycetoma pedis. A. madurae and A. pelletieri are two closely related though separate pathogens which were formerly regarded as species of Nocardia and Streptomyces, and are now placed in a newly created genus Actinomadura.
