Liver Abscess Due to Actinomyces Odontolyticus in an Immunocompetent Patient

open access: yes, 2012
Liver abscess caused by Actinomyces odontolyticus is rarely reported. We report an immunocompetent patient who developed A. odontolyticus liver abscess, and was successfully treated with antibiotics for 6 weeks and abscess drainage. The isolate could not

Nasal Actinomyces in a 7-year-old Boy with Recurrent Nasal Bleeding: A Case Report

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Research, 2022
Actinomyces rarely cause infections in nasal sinuses with local symptoms and its identification is difficult so the initiation of treatment might be delayed. A 7-year-old boy with recurrent nasal bleeding was found to be infected in the paranasal sinuses

Ordered assembly of Cas12a for better performance of CRISPR/Cas system with application to the diagnosis of dental caries

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
Here, we present a tetrahedral DNA framework (TDF)‐mediated Cas12a ordered assembly strategy. TDFs arrange CRISPR/Cas12a into ordered structures controllably, enhancing catalytic efficiency through localized Cas12a hotspots while maintaining spatial intervals to facilitate substrate diffusion.

Actinomyces coleocanis sp. nov., from the vagina of a dog

open access: yes, 2002
A hitherto undescribed Actinomyces-like bacterium was isolated from the vagina of a dog. Biochemical testing and PAGE analysis of whole-cell proteins indicated that the isolate was phenotypically different from previously described Actinomyces species ...

Diagnostic modulation of subgingival proteomic biomarkers by age and smoking habits in periodontitis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Although age and smoking influence the periodontal proteome, their impact on subgingival biomarkers for diagnosing periodontitis remains unclear. This multicenter study assessed their influence on subgingival proteins for disease detection.

Does timing of systemic antibiotics influence periodontal treatment outcomes? A randomized clinical trial

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The aim of this study is to determine whether the timing of metronidazole (MTZ) and amoxicillin (AMX) administration, relative to scaling and root planing (SRP), influences the clinical and microbiological outcomes of periodontal treatment.

Electrolyzed saline as an alternative to chlorhexidine: Antimicrobial and biofilm volume outcomes in a 4‐day non‐brushing randomized controlled clinical trial

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The biofilm‐inhibitory effects of electrolyzed saline (EOS) vary widely due to differences in formulations and treatment methods. This study analyzed the impact of EOS on key oral microbial species and used serial 3D‐intraoral scans to evaluate its effects on de novo biofilm formation.
