Light Monopoles, Electric Vortices and Instantons [PDF]
The physics of the bare Seiberg-Witten action, without supersymmetric partners, is considered in the framework of standard Quantum Field Theory. The topological analysis related to the solutions of the Seiberg-Witten equations is performed and the phase ...

Tuberculosis remains a global health challenge and new therapeutic targets are required. Here, we characterized SseA, a sulfurtransferase from Mycobacterium tuberculosis involved in macrophage infection, and its interaction with the newly identified protein SufEMtb that activates SseA enzymatic activity.

Principles of Least Action in Urban Traffic Flow
Drawing on the strong connection between traffic modelling and physics we apply the principle of least action to traffic flow in an urban setting.

Heavy-light meson spectrum with and without NRQCD
Results for the spectrum of S and P-wave charmed mesons are obtained in the quenched approximation from a tadpole-improved anisotropic gauge field action and a D234 quark action.

Einstein Gravity as an emergent phenomenon? [PDF]
In this essay we marshal evidence suggesting that Einstein gravity may be an emergent phenomenon, one that is not ``fundamental'' but rather is an almost automatic low-energy long-distance consequence of a wide class of theories.

Adverse prognosis gene expression patterns in metastatic castration‐resistant prostate cancer
We aggregated a cohort of 1012 mCRPC tissue samples from 769 patients and investigated the association of gene expression‐based pathways with clinical outcomes. Loss of AR signaling, high proliferation, and a glycolytic phenotype were independently prognostic for poor outcomes, and an adverse transcriptional feature score incorporating these pathways ...

Decoupling in an expanding universe: boundary RG-flow affects initial conditions for inflation
We study decoupling in FRW spacetimes, emphasizing a Lagrangian description throughout. To account for the vacuum choice ambiguity in cosmological settings, we introduce an arbitrary boundary action representing the initial conditions.

This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.

Constraining the UV with the electroweak effective action
By considering an arbitrary bare action describing BSM physics, we use the Barvinsky-Vilkovisky resummation to obtain the most general non-local electroweak effective action at second order in the field strength.
