Multiparametric Bioresorbable Sensor for Doxorubicin Detection via Molecularly Imprinted Synthetic Receptors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A biodegradable molecularly imprinted polymer porous silica sensor enables dual optical readout of doxorubicin via fluorescence and effective optical thickness shifts. The combined transduction mechanisms provide enhanced reliability and quantitative accuracy over clinically relevant concentrations, representing a step toward transient implantable ...

Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery in the Era of Robotics: Evolution, Eclipse, or Equilibrium?

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Minimally invasive colorectal surgery has undergone a remarkable transformation over the past three decades. Laparoscopy, once viewed with skepticism, is now firmly established as a standard approach, supported by robust randomized trials demonstrating oncologic safety and improved recovery compared to open surgery.

Long term (TEN YEARS) follow-up in a trembling patient with parkinsonian signs without dopaminergic denervation

open access: yesClinical Parkinsonism & Related Disorders
Some patients presenting with Parkinson’s disease (PD)-like features do not exhibit dopaminergic denervation, complicating clinical categorization.

Study of resting state cortico-cortical synchronization aimed to accurately discriminate Parkinson and essential tremor patients: A MEG source-space connectivity study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Motor tremor-related syndromes like essential tremor (ET) and Parkinson's disease (PD) have a common symptomatology in early stages: the presence of tremor.

Relationship between resting and action tremors in Parkinson’s disease

open access: yesJournal of Neurosciences in Rural Practice, 2016
ABSTRACT Objective: To determine the relationship between resting tremor (RT) and action tremor (AT) in Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients. Methods: A retrospective study of RT and AT severity was conducted in 100 PD patients. The severity rating for each type of tremor in the upper extremities was assessed.

A Multi‐instrument Recognition and Autonomous Tracking Control Method for Robot‐Assisted Endoscopic Adjustment

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
During lengthy minimally invasive surgeries, fatigue can cause surgeon tremor and poor endoscopic coordination. This study proposes a robot‐assisted endoscopic adjustment system. It employs a lightweight instrument detection model and a hierarchical multiconstraint controller for visual servoing.

How cold is too cold? A theoretical analysis of the optimal trigger for index insurance for frost damage to crops

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract Crop insurance is undoubtedly an extremely valuable element in protecting agricultural businesses, but in many cases standard indemnity‐based products have had very low uptake due to high transaction costs elevating premiums to unaffordable levels.

Essential Tremor: What We Can Learn from Current Pharmacotherapy

open access: yesTremor and Other Hyperkinetic Movements, 2016
Background: The pathophysiology of essential tremor, especially at the cellular level, is poorly understood. Although no drug has been specifically designed to treat essential tremor, several medications improve tremor, and others worsen it. Studying the

Expanding the Phenotype of TUFM‐Related Combined Oxidative Phosphorylation Deficiency 4

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency 4 (COXPD4) is a rare mitochondrial condition caused by biallelic deleterious variants in the nuclear‐encoded gene TUFM. To date, most individuals with COXPD4 have presented with encephalopathy, hypotonia, and abnormal brain imaging. Many of the reported individuals died in infancy. We aim to expand
