Improvement of action tremor by chronic cortical stimulation

Movement Disorders, 1998
AbstractThe authors present a patient who had long‐term improvement of a severe upper limb action tremor after chronic cortical stimulation. A 40‐year‐old woman complained of facial pain and tremor of the left arm after removal of an acoustic neurinoma. A motor cortex stimulation was performed to treat the deafferentation facial pain in 1993.

Subgroup analysis of PD tremor with loading: Action tremor as a combination of classical rest and physiological tremor

Clinical Biomechanics, 2015
In Parkinson disease, tremor is a challenging symptom to manage, partly due to inadequate characterization. The current (classic) model of tremor is characterized by a resting tremor with a single strong peak in 3.5-6.5Hz range. The presence of action tremor, including postural, isometric, and kinetic tremors, has been disputed in the literature but ...

Physiological action tremor: a basis for understanding alcohol withdrawal tremor.

Currents in alcoholism, 1982
Tremor measurements were obtained from 12 male volunteers before and during ethanol intoxication. The tremor recorded during extension and flexion of the hand is called physiological action tremor (PAT) and shares many of the same frequency, amplitude, and electromyographic characteristics reported for withdrawal tremor (WT). This report focuses on the

Quantitative study of action tremor in various patient categories

The Italian Journal of Neurological Sciences, 1985
An electronic method is proposed for quantifying the action tremor revealed by a threefold test of skill, which distinguishes young adult controls from elderly normals and patients with tremor. Parkinsonian patients can be differentiated from patients with essential tremor. The value of drugs against tremor is discussed.

Nigrostriatal dopaminergic function in subjects with isolated action tremor

Parkinsonism & Related Disorders, 2012
Isolated action tremor (IAT) is the hallmark clinical feature of essential tremor (ET), but it may also be a prominent feature of some individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD) suggesting a pathogenic relationship between these two disorders. We investigated the integrity of the striatal presynaptic dopaminergic system in subjects presenting IAT to ...

Propranolol for severe post‐head injury action tremor

Neurology, 1978
Two children developed persistent, incapacitating, upper extremity tremor following severe head injury from bicycle-automobile collision accidents. Both responded well to treatment with the beta blocking agent, propranolol, improving motor control in school and self-care tasks.

Treatment of action tremor in multiple sclerosis with isoniazid

Neurology, 1982
Four patients with disabling action tremor in the setting of MS were treated with isoniazid (800 to 1200 mg per day). All patients showed significant improvement of the tremor, allowing more functional use of their extremities. To the best of our knowledge, this is the only medical treatment for this type of tremor.
