Photo-activity of Bichromated Colloids [PDF]

open access: possibleNature, 1933
THE hardening of bichromated colloids, forming as it does the basis of nearly all photo-engraving processes, is of great importance in the printing industry. In the photogravure process the colloid used is gelatine which is coated on paper to form carbon tissue.

Surface Activity of Soft Polymer Colloids

Langmuir, 2019
We investigate the behavior of polymer colloids at the interface between two immiscible liquids using molecular dynamics simulations. We study several colloid morphologies with various degrees of amphiphilicity, that is, purely solvophobic homogeneous and Janus particles and amphiphilic Janus and core-shell particles.

Chemically active colloidal superstructures

Nanoscale
This review explores the self-propulsion mechanisms of chemically driven colloidal motors, the principles of their chemical communication, and strategies for the directed assembly of active colloidal superstructures.

Enzymatically active colloidal crystal arrays

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2009
We report the construction of three-dimensional (3D) colloidal crystal arrays (CCA) and hollow colloidal crystal arrays (HCCA) derived from the self-assembly of polyelectrolytes (PE)-coated polystyrene (PS) particles and their use as models of high surface area systems to immobilize peroxidase (POD).

Quantitative Microscopy of Active Colloids

This chapter presents an introduction to microscopy techniques and methodologies that are applicable for the study of active colloidal systems. It begins with a primer of optical imaging, to further describe quantitative and statistical analysis methods, providing insights into the individual and collective dynamics of active colloids.
