Fractal active contour model for segmenting the boundary of man-made target in nature scenes

open access: yes, 2005
In this paper, a novel geometric active contour model based on the fractal dimension feature to extract the boundary of man-made target in nature scenes is presented.

Mitral valve contour extraction using active contour models [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
To perform mitral valve contour extraction a software application is presented to support the surgeon in the implant size decision. The system is based on the application, to mitral valve surgery images, of active contour models.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Fast Implicit Active Contour Models

open access: yes, 2002
Implicit active contour models are widely used in image processing and computer vision tasks. Most implementations, however, are based on explicit updating schemes and are therefore of limited computational efficiency.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Flame front detection by Line Enhance Active Contour from OH-PLIF images

open access: yes, 2010
This paper presents a new Line Enhance Active Contour model (LEAC model) to detect the flame front boundaries from high speed Planar Laser Induced Fluorescence (PLIF) images.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Multi-Scale, Multi-Feature Vector Flow Active Contours for Automatic Multiple-Face Detection

open access: yes
To automatically detect faces in real-world images presenting challenges such as complex background and multiple foregrounds, we propose a new method which is based on parametric active contours and which does not require any supervision, model nor ...

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated
