Directional geodesic active contours [PDF]

open access: yes2012 19th IEEE International Conference on Image Processing, 2012
We present a non-conformal metric that generalizes the geodesic active contours approach for image segmentation. The new metric is obtained by adding to the Euclidean metric an additional term that penalizes the misalignment of the curve with the image gradient and multiplying the resulting metric by a conformal factor that depends on the edge ...

FRACTIONAL DIFFERENTIATION-BASED EDGE ENERGY DRIVEN ACTIVE CONTOURS FOR ROBUST IMAGE SEGMENTATION

open access: yesICTACT Journal on Image and Video Processing, 2021
In this paper, a new fractional differentiation-based active contour model for robust image segmentation is presented. A new edge energy is introduced, in which the contour evolution is driven by the difference between the fractional derivatives directed

Non‐local weighted fuzzy energy‐based active contour model with level set evolution starting with a constant function

open access: yesIET Image Processing, 2019
In the traditional active contour models, global region‐based methods fail to segment images with intensity inhomogeneity, and local region‐based methods are sensitive to initial contour.

A hybrid level set model for image segmentation.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
Active contour models driven by local binary fitting energy can segment images with inhomogeneous intensity, while being prone to falling into a local minima. However, the segmentation result largely depends on the location of the initial contour.

Automated Optic Disc Segmentation Using Basis Splines-Based Active Contour

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2022
We develop a fully automated method for the segmentation of optic disc in retinal fundus images using basis-spline-based active contour. The segmentation is achieved by performing scaling, translation, and rotation of the active contour, thereby giving ...

A Hybrid Active Contour Segmentation Method for Myocardial D-SPECT Images

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
The ischaemic heart disease has become one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide. Dynamic single-photon emission computed tomography (D-SPECT) is an advanced routine diagnostic tool commonly used to validate the myocardial function in patients ...

Deep Active Contours

open access: yesCoRR, 2016
We propose a method for interactive boundary extraction which combines a deep, patch-based representation with an active contour framework. We train a class-specific convolutional neural network which predicts a vector pointing from the respective point on the evolving contour towards the closest point on the boundary of the object of interest.

Synthetic Aperture Radar Image Segmentation with Reaction Diffusion Level Set Evolution Equation in an Active Contour Model

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2018
This paper presents a method for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image segmentation by draing upon a reaction–diffusion (RD) level set evolution (LSE) equation. The well-known RD theory consists of two main parts: reaction and diffusion terms.

Medical image segmentation using modified active contour method [PDF]

open access: yesSerbian Journal of Electrical Engineering, 2017
Image data is of major practical importance in medical informatics. Accurate segmentation of medical images largely determines the final result of image analysis, which provides significant information for 3D visualization, surgical planning and

LBP-guided active contours [PDF]

open access: yesPattern Recognition Letters, 2008
This paper investigates novel LBP-guided active contour approaches to texture segmentation. The local binary pattern (LBP) operator is well suited for texture representation, combining efficiency and effectiveness for a variety of applications. In this light, two LBP-guided active contours have been formulated, namely the scalar-LBP active contour (s ...
