Active underwater acoustic damping coating [PDF]
An active control coating for the absorption of normally reflected acoustic pressure waves is presented. This polymer matrix coating encapsulates large area polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) plates for characterization of the impressed acoustic field and a piezocomposite actuator for the absorption of the reflected acoustic pressure.

Using a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG), with an additional active or reactive damping controller, is a new method of suppressing the inter-area oscillation of a power system. However, using active power modulation (APM) may decrease the damping of

A Unified Active Damping for Grid and Converter Current Feedback in Active Front End Converters
The Active Front End (AFE) is interconnected to the grid with an LCL filter to reduce the switching harmonics. Possible resonances induced by the LCL filter can be damped using Active Damping (AD). In AFE applications, the current sensor can be placed on

Robust Active Damping Control for LCL-Type Shunt Active Power Filters
A dual-loop current control is discussed for LCL-type shunt active power filters (APFs), where inverter-side current feedback and point of common coupling (PCC) voltage feedforward both provide active damping (AD) effects for LCL resonance.

A linear systems analysis of the yaw dynamics of a dynamically scaled insect model [PDF]
Recent studies suggest that fruit flies use subtle changes to their wing motion to actively generate forces during aerial maneuvers. In addition, it has been estimated that the passive rotational damping caused by the flapping wings of an insect is ...

Quantum theory of fluctuations in a cold damped accelerometer [PDF]
We present a quantum network approach to real high sensitivity measurements. Thermal and quantum fluctuations due to active as well as passive elements are taken into account.

The output active power of a grid-connected inverter controlled by a traditional virtual synchronous generator (VSG) has the problems of oscillation and steady-state errors. A VSG control strategy based on improved damping and angular frequency deviation

Active stabilization methods of electric power systems with constant power loads: a review
Modern electric power systems have increased the usage of switching power converters. These tightly regulated switching power converters behave as constant power loads (CPLs). They exhibit a negative incremental impedance in small signal analysis.

LCL filter is widely used in grid-connected converters for good harmonic mitigation performance. However, resonance poles of LCL filter challenge system stability, especially in a digital control system.
