Nonlinear active vibration damping

IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 1994
Summary: A multivariable nonlinear controller is investigated for vibration suppression of flexible structures. The closed-loop gain matrix consists of a varying term added to a constant term. The varying term is proportional to the measured signal, providing rapid cancellation of large deflections and maintaining low noise sensitivity.

Active Twist Blades: Electromechanical Damping

Volume 2: Mechanics and Behavior of Active Materials; Integrated System Design and Implementation; Bio-Inspired Materials and Systems; Energy Harvesting, 2012
Active Twist Rotor Blades for helicopter main rotors have been developed for the use in secondary control such as higher harmonic control (HHC) and individual blade control (IBC). The basic principle of such blades is the implementation of piezoelectric actuators into the blades causing the blades to twist.

Active Damping of Structures with Guy Cables

Journal of Guidance, Control, and Dynamics, 1997
Summary: A strategy is presented for active damping of structures with guy cables. The active member consists of a piezoelectric actuator collocated with a force sensor. The control algorithm consists of an integral force feedback; it has guaranteed stability, including at the parametric resonance. The results are confirmed by an experiment.

Active piezoelectric damping composites

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 2004
Patches of active piezoelectric damping composites (APDC) consisting of piezoelectric rods, which are obliquely embedded across the thickness of viscoelastic damping matrix, are presented as a viable candidate for smart actuation. In this configuration, activation of the piezo-rods simultaneously enhances both the shear and compression damping ...

Active Vibration Damping in Beams

1989 American Control Conference, 1989
The traveling wave approach is discussed of the active vibration control of beam. First an active vibration control for the TIMOSHENKO-beam is designed using external control forces. Then vibration control by means of internal forces. i.e. force systems forming equilibrium groups is discussed. Finally an unexpected resonance phenomenon occuring in this

Active Damping of Large Trusses

2017
This chapter reviews various ways of damping large space trusses. The first part discusses the use of active struts consisting of a piezoelectric actuator collocated with a force sensor. The guaranteed stability properties of the integral force feedback are reviewed and the practical significance of the modal fraction of strain energy is stressed.

Active damping in HDD actuator

2000 Asia-Pacific Magnetic Recording Conference. Digests of APMRC2000 on Mechanical and Manufacturing Aspects of HDD (Cat. No.00EX395), 2001
One of the limitations inherent in high-track-density hard disk drive design is the effect of actuator mechanical resonant modes on the head-positioning servo. The first servo bandwidth limiting mode is the so-called "butterfly mode," which is the major mode in the head mechanical transfer functions and can not be avoided through mechanical design.

Active vibration damping actuator and active damping apparatus using the same

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2007
A vibration damping actuator including: a cup-shaped housing; an output member disposed spaced apart from an opening end of the housing; a guide rod disposed on the output member and positioned inserted into a guide hole; a coil member provided to one of the housing and the output member; an armature disposed on an other of the housing and the output ...
