Active Earth Pressure of Limited C-φ Soil Based on Improved Soil Arching Effect
For c-φ soil formation (cohesive soil) of limited width with ground surface overload behind a deep retaining structure, a modified active earth pressure calculation model is established in this study.

The noncoding region of the genome plays a key role in regulating gene expression, and mutations within these regions are capable of altering it. Researchers have identified multiple functional noncoding mutations associated with increased cancer risk in the genome of breast cancer patients.

Active Earth Pressure Founded on Displacement Field
ABSTRACT This paper develops a numerical procedure for calculating the active earth pressure against a retaining wall, which allows consideration of the movements of retaining wall and backfill soil. The limit equilibrium analysis, which has been the principal concept for designing geotechnical structures, has the deficiency that the analysis cannot ...

Orbital debris removal with solar concentrators [PDF]
In 1993 solar concentrators were first proposed to deflect asteroids away from a collision course with the Earth. The original concept was expanded by the authors, and proved to be effective and technologically feasible.

Quaternary rupture of a crustal fault beneath Victoria, British Columbia, Canada [PDF]
The seismic potential of crustal faults within the forearc of the northern Cascadia subduction zone in British Columbia has remained elusive, despite the recognition of recent seismic activity on nearby fault systems within the Juan de Fuca Strait.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Dynamic Stability for Seismic-Excited Earth Retaining Structures Following a Nonlinear Criterion
Based on the upper bound limit analysis, the multi-log spiral failure mechanism for earth retaining structures under horizontal seismic loads was constructed, which could introduce the nonlinear strength criterion into stability analysis without any ...

Needs assessment of gossamer structures in communications platform end-of-life disposal [PDF]
The use of a gossamer structure is considered in application to end-of-life disposal of communications platforms. A wide-ranging survey of end-of-life disposal techniques and strategies is presented for comparison against a gossamer structure prior to a ...
