Simulated-airline-service flight tests of laminar-flow control with perforated-surface suction system [PDF]

open access: yes
The effectiveness and practicality of candidate leading edge systems for suction laminar flow control transport airplanes were investigated in a flight test program utilizing a modified JetStar airplane.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Recent advances in numerical simulation and control of asymmetric flows around slender bodies [PDF]

open access: yes
The problems of asymmetric flow around slender bodies and its control are formulated using the unsteady, compressible, thin-layer or full Navier-Stokes equations which are solved using an implicit, flux-difference splitting, finite-volume scheme.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Adaptive Separation Control System Using Vortex Generator Jets for Time-Varying Flow

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics, 2008
Flow separation is mostly an undesirable phenomenon and boundary layer control is an important technique for flow separation problems on airfoils and in diffusers.

Aerodynamic Noise Reduction Using Active Flow Control Techniques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Experimental studies using active flow control techniques for trailing edge noise reduction have been carried out. The experiments were performed for a flat plate test rig, equipped with different types of active flow control devices, namely steady ...

Methane as an effective hydrogen source for single-layer graphene synthesis on Cu foil by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition

open access: yes, 2013
A single-layer graphene is synthesized on Cu foil in the absence of H2 flow by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD). In lieu of an explicit H2 flow, hydrogen species are produced during methane decomposition process into their active species

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Active Flow Control Technology Based on Simple Droop Devices and a Co-Flow Jet for Lift Enhancement

open access: yesAerospace
The missions of modern aircraft require multiple abilities, such as highly efficient taking-off and landing, fast arrival, and long-endurance hovering. It is difficult to achieve all technical objectives using traditional aircraft design technology.
