Control of compressor surge with Active Magnetic Bearings

49th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (CDC), 2010
The design of an active surge controller, which employs Active Magnetic Bearings (AMBs) to stabilize the flow in the compressor, is presented in this paper. The axial tip clearance of an unshrouded centrifugal impeller from a single stage compressor is modulated relative to the static shroud to induce a pressure variation in the compressor output ...

Losses estimation and modelling in active magnetic bearings

2014 16th European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications, 2014
Active magnetic bearings (AMBs) are becoming very popular in high speed electrical machines applications in the last decade. As the interest in them grows the necessity to optimise all the aspects of their operation arises. This paper presents the analytical way of calculating losses of active magnetic bearings based on reluctance network method.

ANFIS controller for an Active Magnetic Bearing system

2013 IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems (FUZZ-IEEE), 2013
This paper proposes an intelligent control method for positioning an Active Magnetic Bearing (AMB) system, using the emerging approaches of the Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) and Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS). An AMB system depends on control of the air gap between the stator and the rotor.

The dynamics of a cracked rotor with an active magnetic bearing

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2001
The dynamic characteristics of a cracked rotor with an active magnetic bearing (AMB) are theoretically analyzed in this paper. The effects of using optimal controller parameters on the dynamic characteristics of the cracked rotor and the effect of the crack on the stability of the active control system are discussed.

On Active Magnetic Bearing Control with Input Saturation

Proceedings of the 44th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2006
We study the low-bias stabilization of active magnetic bearings (AMBs) subject to voltage saturation based on a recently proposed model for the AMB switching mode of operation. Using a forwarding-like approach, we construct a stabilizing controller of arbitrarily small amplitude and a control-Lyapunov function for the AMB dynamics.

The Analysis of Radial Magnetic Bearing’s Magnetic Field in Active Magnetic Bearing Electric Spindle Unit

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
Introduced the working principle of active magnetic bearing unit and took the electric spindle with 5.5kW for example, finite element analysis of the magnetic fields of radical magnetic bearing was analyzed through finite element analysis by ANSYS software to find out the variation of magnetic field distribution and affecting factors.

NONLINEAR DYNAMIC BEHAVIOR OF A ROTOR ACTIVE MAGNETIC BEARING

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2010
The nonlinear dynamic behavior of a rigid disc-rotor supported by active magnetic bearings (AMB) is investigated, without gyroscopic effects. The vibration of the rotor is modeled by a coupled second order nonlinear ordinary differential equations with quadratic and cubic nonlinearities.

Fuzzy Controllers for Active Magnetic Bearings

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2000
Abstract The design of a fuzzy logic controller for a magnetic bearing is presented. Parameters defining the controller are selected with the aid of a multiobjective genetic algorithm. Unexpected results are discovered which show that novel controllers emerge from what is described in this paper as an 'unconstrained' search technique.

Decentralized Control for Active Magnetic Bearings

2006 12th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference, 2006
In the paper a decentralized control for active magnetic bearings is discussed. For the numerical evaluation of different control algorithms a mathematical model of the controlled plant is determined. For this reason basic characteristics and fundamental operation principle of magnetic levitation as well mathematical model of the rigid shaft are ...

Unbalancing estimation in active magnetic bearings

Proceedings of IEEE Systems Man and Cybernetics Conference - SMC, 2002
This paper deals with state reconstruction of a discrete linear time varying system which is influenced by constant disturbance adding to control input, and sinusoidal perturbations on measure signals. The process under consideration is composed of a horizontal rotating shaft, suspended by means of active magnetic bearings, that requires a control ...
