Active pixel sensor (APS) based star tracker
1998 IEEE Aerospace Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.98TH8339), 2002Charge-Coupled Device (CCD) based star trackers provide reliable attitude estimation onboard most 3 axis stabilized spacecraft. The spacecraft attitude is calculated based on observed positions of stars, which are located and identified in a CCD image of the sky.

Analysis of self-correcting active pixel sensors
SPIE Proceedings, 2005This paper evaluates the operation of self-correcting active pixel sensors presented in [6] using both Signal-to-Noise Ratio and Dynamic Range figures. The evaluation is based on a simplified Active Pixel Sensing (APS) model. We show that in the absence of stuck faults (i.e., no errors) the performance of the system suffers from considerable ...

Monolithic active pixel sensor for dosimetry application
Electrical Performance of Electrical Packaging (IEEE Cat. No. 03TH8710), 2004A Monolithic Active Pixel Sensor (MAPS) prototype device for real-time dosimetry in brachytherapy application is presented. A novel charge sensitive element is used for pixel design. It features a built-in charge-to-current conversion and allows operation mode with charge integration.

Hybrid active pixel sensors in infrared astronomy
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2005Abstract Infrared astronomy is currently benefiting from three main technologies providing high-performance hybrid active pixel sensors. In the near infrared from 1 to 5 μm two technologies, both aiming for buttable 2K×2K mosaics, are competing, namely InSb and HgCdTe grown by LPE or MBE on Al 2 O 3 , Si or CdZnTe substrates. Blocked impurity band Si:

Radiation Damages in CMOS Active Pixel Sensors
Imaging and Applied Optics, 2011This paper presents a summary of the main results we observed on irradiated imagers manufactured using a0.18µm CMOS processes dedicated to imaging. Several types of energetic particles have been used to irradiate the devices.

A CMOS active-pixel image sharpness sensor
2014 IEEE 57th International Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems (MWSCAS), 2014The technique of maximizing image sharpness is a powerful means of adaptively correcting phase aberrations in wavefronts. Crucial to this correction is a sensor that provides an accurate real-time estimate of image sharpness. In this paper, we introduce a novel image sharpness sensor using CMOS active pixel technology that computes image sharpness at a

Active pixel sensors in Nuclear Medicine imaging
2008 IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium Conference Record, 2008Three CMOS active pixel sensors have been investigated to assess their potential application to Nuclear Medicine imaging. The first, Startracker, contained 525 × 525 pixels each 25 micron square and was coupled via a fiber optic stud to a 20mm × 20mm × 2mm thick segmented CsI(Tl) crystal.

CMOS Active-Pixel Sensor in low temperature
2014 29th Symposium on Microelectronics Technology and Devices (SBMicro), 2014This paper presents experimental and simulated results of an Active-Pixel Sensor (APS) circuit operating at different temperatures (300K, 77K, 60K and 40K). The optical sensor used was a silicon photodiode integrated with its electronics in a standard CMOS 0.35µm technology. Interestingly, the pixel worked well at all temperatures tested.
