Comparing Active Shape Models with Active Appearance Models
Procedings of the British Machine Vision Conference 1999, 1999Statistical models of the shape and appearance of image structures can be matched to new images using both the Active Shape Model [7] algorithm and the Active Appearance Model algorithm [2]. The former searches along profiles about the current model point positions to update the current estimate of the shape of the object.

Active Shape Models (ASMs) are a popular family of segmentation algorithms which combine local appearance models for boundary detection with a statistical shape model (SSM). They are especially popular in medical imaging due to their ability for fast and accurate segmentation of anatomical structures even in large and noisy 3D images.

We present a model for the lips using the active shape model (ASM) based on Bezier curves which can capture the dynamics of the lips efficiently. The curves are defined only by a few points that can be used as visual speech features. Using some measured feature points, we can recover the full model of the lips especially for those features which are ...

Regularized active shape model for shape alignment
2008 8th IEEE International Conference on Automatic Face & Gesture Recognition, 2008Active shape model (ASM) statistically represents a shape by a set of well-defined landmark points and models object variations using principal component analysis (PCA). However, the extracted shape contour modeled by PCA is still unsmooth when the shape has a large variation compared with the mean shape.

Active Shape Modeling with Electric Flows
IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics, 2010Physics-based particle systems are an effective tool for shape modeling. Also, there has been much interest in the study of shape modeling using deformable contour approaches. In this paper, we describe a new deformable model with electric flows based upon computer simulations of a number of charged particles embedded in an electrostatic system. Making

Vertebral Shape: Automatic Measurement with Active Shape Models
Radiology, 1999The shape and appearance of the spine on lateral dual x-ray absorptiometry scans were statistically modeled. To measure vertebral shape accurately, rapidly, and automatically with a computer, this trained model was matched to findings on previously unseen scans.

Active Shape Models in Practice
2008Active Shape Models (ASM) were proposed in the last decade of the 20th century as a versatile method of object localization and recognition. The theoretical concept on which the algorithm is based seems very attractive but the practical value of this technique still needs to be verified.

Active Shape Model (ASM) is one of the most powerful statistical tools for face image alignment. In this paper, we propose a novel method, called Bunch-Active Shape Model (Bunch-ASM), based on the standard ASM, to automatically locate facial feature points in Face Recognition.

Geometric active deformable models in shape modeling
IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2000This paper analyzes the problem of shape modeling using the principle of active geometric deformable models. While the basic modeling technique already exists in the literature, we highlight many of its drawbacks and discuss their source and steps to overcome them. We propose a new stopping criterion to address the stopping problem.
