microRNAs‐mediated regulation of insulin signaling in white adipose tissue during aging: Role of caloric restriction

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 22, Issue 11, November 2023., 2023
At middle age there is insulin resistance in subcutaneous white adipose tissue, which is improved by caloric restriction. Differentially expressed miRNAs in this tissue during aging may modulate key genes implicated in the insulin signaling pathway, leading to the progressive appearance of insulin resistance during aging.

palaeoverse: A community‐driven R package to support palaeobiological analysis

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 9, Page 2205-2215, September 2023., 2023
Abstract The open‐source programming language ‘R' has become a standard tool in the palaeobiologist's toolkit. Its popularity within the palaeobiological community continues to grow, with published articles increasingly citing the usage of R and R packages.

Self-Disassembling Macroporous Metal-Organic Framework-Based Micromotors with Magnetically Controlled Motion for Sequential Drug Release. [PDF]

open access: yesSmall Methods
MOF‐based magnetic micromotors release two drugs in a controlled and sequential manner at the acidic cancer cell media. Abstract Herein, the synthesis of macroporous zeolitic imidazole framework (ZIF)‐based magnetic micromotors (MMs) for the dual encapsulation of 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU) and doxorubicin (DOX), with pH‐triggered release is described.

Transdisciplinary approach for planning the expansion of irrigation infrastructure at a regional scale

open access: yesWorld Water Policy, Volume 9, Issue 3, Page 371-387, August 2023., 2023
Abstract The focus on irrigation infrastructure development in countries like India, including a significant allocation of the government's budget, highlights the importance of achieving a high benefit–cost ratio for these projects. However, past reviews have revealed instances where irrigation projects yielded low benefits.

The two‐sided paradox of ageism during the COVID‐19 pandemic: The cases of Hungary, Tunisia and Uzbekistan

open access: yesRegional Science Policy &Practice, Volume 15, Issue 3, Page 606-625, April 2023., 2023
Abstract The consequences of ageing populations around the globe have necessitated policy changes that encourage people to stay in the labour force longer. Finding a job depends on two conditions: the willingness to work and employers' decisions. However, the COVID‐19 pandemic created special circumstances that negatively affected the perception of ...

Applying fault tree analysis to biological invasions identifies optimal targets for effective biosecurity

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 59, Issue 10, Page 2553-2566, October 2022., 2022
While prevention has been long recognised as the most cost‐effective action against biological invasions, here we were able to quantify the reduction in invasion risk under a range of management scenarios. Optimising all management elements included in the FT reduced the overall probability of invasion by three orders of magnitude.

Minigene‐based splicing analysis and ACMG/AMP‐based tentative classification of 56 ATM variants

open access: yesThe Journal of Pathology, Volume 258, Issue 1, Page 83-101, September 2022., 2022
Abstract The ataxia telangiectasia‐mutated (ATM) protein is a major coordinator of the DNA damage response pathway. ATM loss‐of‐function variants are associated with 2‐fold increased breast cancer risk. We aimed at identifying and classifying spliceogenic ATM variants detected in subjects of the large‐scale sequencing project BRIDGES.
