Multi-Objective Gust Load Alleviation Control Designs for an Aeroelastic Wind Tunnel Demonstration Wing [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper presents several control and gust disturbance estimation techniques applied to a mathematical model of a physical flexible wing wind tunnel model used in ongoing tests at the University of Washington Aeronautical Laboratory's Kirsten Wind ...

Electrical Control of the Transduction Channels’ Gating Force in Mechanosensory Hair Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The inner ear's hair cells rely on mechanosensitive ion channels to convert vibrations of their hair‐bundle into electrical signals. We show that varying the electrical potential (U) across the sensory epithelium modulates a key determinant of mechanosensitivity—the gating force (FG)—by modulating the gating swing (d), ranging from the size of the ...

Burn‐Safe Biodegradable Magnetocaloric Composites for Temperature‐Controlled Biomedical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work investigates a magnetocaloric (Mn,Fe)2(P,Si) compound tailored for precise, self‐regulating heating in biomedical use. With a Curie temperature tuned at 43 °C, it enables therapeutic activation without overheating. Encapsulation in a composite ensures controlled temperature rise under an alternating magnetic field (AMF), with high ...

Algorithms for computing the multivariable stability margin [PDF]

open access: yes
Stability margin for multiloop flight control systems has become a critical issue, especially in highly maneuverable aircraft designs where there are inherent strong cross-couplings between the various feedback control loops.

Artificial Tactile Perception System for Exploring Internal and External Features of Objects via Time‐Frequency Features

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By engaging in different active exploration behaviors, the tactile perception system can generate distinct signal modes, enabling the application of targeted decoding strategies for efficient and accurate perception of both external and internal object features.

Regions of attraction and ultimate boundedness for linear quadratic regulators with nonlinearities [PDF]

open access: yes
The closed-loop stability of multivariable linear time-invariant systems controlled by optimal linear quadratic (LQ) regulators is investigated for the case when the feedback loops have nonlinearities N(sigma) that violate the standard stability ...

Additive‐Free Ti3C2Tx MXene Actuator with Large Deformation, Programmability, and High‐Humidity Stability via Precise Interlayer Spacing Control Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By sequentially assembling MXene nanosheets with significant size differences, a multistimulus responsive additive‐free MXene actuator with gradient structure is obtained. An innovative cyclic low‐temperature annealing‐rehydration technology is proposed, which achieves precise control of interlayer d‐spacing, initial shape, and actuation behavior of ...

A Supramolecular Ferroelectric With Two Sublattices and Polarization Dependent Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Ferroelectric behavior in a supramolecular material with two, independently switchable, sublattices is demonstrated. The sublattices can be associated with the two dipolar groups in the compound. Moreover, the polarization is found to couple to the charge transport in the material, giving rise to a switchable, directional conductivity.

An Opto‐Actuated Hydrogel for Cell Mechanoactuation and Real‐Time Force Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Researchers developed a mechanoactuated hydrogel interface where nanomachines exert forces on adhesion receptors and allow monitoring of traction force responses in real time. They demonstrate reversible talin recruitment, enhanced F‐actin polymerization, and a reduction in cell traction force when force is locally applied to focal adhesions of ...
