MYCOBACTERIUM TUBERCULOSIS BIOLOGICAL PROPERTIES AND CHARACTERISTICS OF THE INFLAMMATORY REACTION IN PATIENTS WITH INFILTRATIVE PULMONARY TUBERCULOSIS

open access: yesИнфекция и иммунитет, 2014
Host-pathogen relations were analyzed on basis of the results of examinations of 42 patients with newly diagnosed, previously untreated infiltrative pulmonary tuberculosis (IPT) with regard for the biological characteristics of Mycobacterium tuberculosis

Aberrant expression of nuclear prothymosin α contributes to epithelial‐mesenchymal transition in lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nuclear prothymosin α inhibits epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in lung cancer by increasing Smad7 acetylation and competing with Smad2 for binding to SNAI1, TWIST1, and ZEB1 promoters. In early‐stage cancer, ProT suppresses TGF‐β‐induced EMT, while its loss in the nucleus in late‐stage cancer leads to enhanced EMT and poor prognosis.

Neospora caninum and Bovine Neosporosis: Current Vaccine Research [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Neospora caninum, a tissue cyst-forming parasite, is the causative agent of bovine neosporosis. It is considered to be one of the most important transmissible causes of reproductive failure in cattle; abortion and neonatal mortality result in significant

"Association between Periodontal Disease and Elevated C-reactive Protein in Acute Myocardial Infarction Patients "

open access: yesFrontiers in Dentistry, 2006
Statement of problem: Periodontal disease (PD) has been linked to adverse cardiovascular events by unknown mechanisms. C-reactive protein (CRP) is a prognostic marker for cardiovascular disease, with reported elevated serum levels during PD. Purpose: The

Determination of ADP/ATP translocase isoform ratios in malignancy and cellular senescence

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The individual functions of three isoforms exchanging ADP and ATP (ADP/ATP translocases; ANTs) on the mitochondrial membrane remain unclear. We developed a method for quantitatively differentiating highly similar human ANT1, ANT2, and ANT3 using parallel reaction monitoring. This method allowed us to assess changes in translocase levels during cellular

Acute phase proteins in psoriasis

open access: yesCollegium antropologicum, 2009
Psoriasis is a chronic, relapsing, inflammatory and hyperproliferative skin disorder. The levels of acute phase proteins are suggested to be elevated in those patients with acute disease. The expression of selected acute phase proteins as the parameters of humoral immunity has been analyzed in 70 patients with acute psoriasis and 40 healthy controls ...

Hepatic acute-phase proteins control innate immune responses during infection by promoting myeloid-derived suppressor cell function

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Medicine, 2010
Acute-phase proteins (APPs) are an evolutionarily conserved family of proteins produced mainly in the liver in response to infection and inflammation.

Agreement between commercial assays for haptoglobin and serum amyloid A in goats

open access: yesActa Veterinaria Scandinavica, 2017
Haptoglobin (Hp) and serum amyloid A (SAA) are considered as the major acute phase proteins (APPs) in goats. These APPs have been investigated in several studies during the last decade.
